What’s said in this shiur

The opening of this shiur, in Rabbi Shalom Arush’s own words — taken from the captions, so names and Hebrew terms may be approximate.

[Music] hi today I want to talk to you about the power of joy joy happiness is the key to being able to live a long and healthy life we know that sadness takes us away from our connection with God takes us away from our connection with ourselves we need to have ways of being able to work on ourselves work on our happiness to be able to maintain an optimistic attitude all day long all of the time and this is a challenge it's a challenge because Hashem puts into life certain challenges and difficulties so that things don't always go the way that we want them to life is a there are certain deficiencies certain certain things that come up that we don't like and that's all by design so we need to be able to hold on to every little bit of happiness that we know about and we need to be able to set aside things that are going to make us sad and to be able to focus on things that gonna make us feel good if we look for sadness we're gonna find it if we look for problems in this world they're all over the place the favorite weapon of the evil inclination is negative thinking so we need to be able to combat it we need to fight it and it's one of the hardest fights that will ever make but none of us are allowed to succumb to sadness when we when we feel sad we go into exile so to speak our intellect shuts down you can't pray when you're sad you can't connect with Hashem when you're sad and you can't connect with your own
