welcome to Sparks of History where Jewish history and world history meet we are very honored and pleased to have with us today Rabbi Elliot maias Rabbi maias serves as a tor's chief operating officer for Global activities as well as executive director of Asa Tor in New York where maias is the founder of hbar fellowships a premier campus Israel advocacy organization in North America which trains and fors thousands of students to stand up for Israel Rob maias graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in Communications and received his rabinal ordination smik fromat aor in Jerusalem brother Maas thank you for being with us we appreciate it very much thank you for having me AR I'm very excited okay um starting off what exactly is the hbar fellowship's program how has it made an impact on college campuses and is there a difference pre- October 7th and post October 7th sure so the H hosb fellowships program uh was a program started actually by a um which uh which the idea was and really you know we see what's going on on campuses now post October 7 this is not new this has been happening uh really for decades even really it started in the early 80s after uh Israel went into Lebanon to try to get rid of the PLO in Lebanon already back then in the 80s we were seeing protests on campus against the Israeli atrocities and the Israeli occupation um but I got involved um in the early 2000s so in the when the inata quote unquote uh started in 2000 and there was an eruption on college campuses protesting Israel um probably not as intense as we've seen it over this last few months um but it was happening you know students uh dressing up on campus as Israeli soldiers and uh
