Parshiot Behar Bechukotai We will try to blend in a lesson that correlates that speaks about both parshiot. We start off with parshat Behar where parshat Behar is famous for the sabbatical year. As we know, a farmer works his field, his land for 6 years. And on the 7th year is shmita. It's Shabbat laHashem. The pasuk says Daber el benei Yisrael ve'amarta aleihem ki tavou el ha'aretz asher ani noten lakhem veshabbetah ha'aretz shabbat laHashem. As we explained, 6 years work the land in the 7th year you are to leave the land bare. You cannot touch it, you cannot sell the fruits, you cannot do anything. Whoever wants to come is able to take Can somebody just do me a favor and just close those windows? Fine. As we explained, 6 years you work the land in the 7th year as a farmer and this only applies by the way to Eretz Yisrael. As it says ki tavou el ha'aretz. This is a mitzvah to leave the land only when you get to the land of Eretz Yisrael. You work the land for 6 years, on the 7th year you're not supposed to touch it at all. Whoever wants to come is able to eat from the fruit, able to eat from the vegetables. You cannot touch it at all. This is the pasuk in the Torah. The Gemara Masechet Kiddushin daf kaf says, Rebi Yossi beRebi Hiyya omer, Rebi Yossi in the name of Rebi Hiyya tells us, Bou eh kama kasha avkasha shevi'it.
