Happy with His Lot | Rabbi Moshe Tuvia Lieff

What’s said in this shiur

The opening of this shiur, in Vayimaen’s own words — taken from the captions, so names and Hebrew terms may be approximate.

Chazal say, בכל יום יצרו מתגבר עליו. Every day, the Yetzer Hara gets stronger. So how do we deal with our Yetzer Hara? It keeps on getting stronger, overpowering. My teacher and Rebbi, the Gaon, R’ Refael Shmuel Berenbaum zt”l, Rosh Yeshiva of the Mir, said over that when he came to New York from Shanghai, he heard an unbelievable thing. That if a lady would dress sleeveless, she could get a summons, a ticket, a fine. Public misdemeanor. Said R’ Shmuel, So what happened? Why is there so much immodesty all over the world, in New York and elsewhere? Said R’ Shmuel: One corresponding to the other. As the power of Torah got stronger, the power of the Yetzer Hara got stronger. So how then do we offset the power of the Yetzer Hara? You know what it means not to look? Not to look a second time? The גר”א said, When a person refrains from speaking Lashon Hara, there's a Medrash, he receives reward beyond anything the angels can fathom. For one time not speaking Lashon Hara, he receives incredible reward. One time you don't look you receive incredible reward.
