so to begin at the beginning hopefully it'll work everything actually worked okay which is a miracle and of itself i always like to begin this class with a story of a conversation that took place in the 17th century between these two guys blaise pascal and louis xiv you guys heard of louis xiv the guy built versailles you know and pascal the famous french mathematician who has a formula named after him philosopher so this is during the age of enlightenment 17th century the age of reason pascal asks louis xiv asks pascal he says please show me proof of the supernatural what does pascal answer the jewish people your majesty like what's so supernatural about us we invented bagels if you read what pascal wrote in his famous essay called pence's the fact that the jewish people had survived till the 17th century like completely supernatural no explanation for it guys imagine what he'd say to see us sitting here today and that's what we're going to see in our little presentation the jewish history is comprised of a series of trends and events each and every one of them is let's see how fast this loads ah unusual or unique meaning we call this the seven wonders because there were seven wonders of the ancient world right and they're which is the only one still standing anyone knows very good okay and the seven days in the week and seven is a number of completion and sevens as many as i could stick in the 45 minutes by the way i could do easily 30. this is more than enough but every one of these aspects trends or patterns in jewish history is unusual or unique unusual meaning only happened to a few nations in history unique meaning
