believed in the past what is believed now although after your explanation so many new things were cleared up for me i still don't understand how they could say the same about the first chapter in the second chapter which speaks solely about god and i believe in him our love of him there's only one of him and everything else you talked about as i understand what you're teaching these beliefs about god are the basis for everyone else for everything else to come all the halachas how we live our lives what we're supposed to do how we are to behave can you explain how the first two chapters could even be put into the same category as the third and fourth chapter it's a good question it's a good question the only thing i'm going to say very briefly is the general theme of those chapters of course everybody agrees with the foundation of foundations to know that there is a maturation and so forth but there were quite a few details that elicited many arguments i'll just give one classic example at the end of chapter two the rambam describes hashem as who hamada deva who are you he's the knower he's the knowing and he's the instrument of knowledge because everything comes from him and he's aware of himself and he's one with his knowledge and one with his life so for example take the maharal of prague morale of prague in his introduction to his classic vurus hashem takes issue with the rambam because he says that the rambam associates god with knowledge hashem is the knower and the knowledge and instrument of knowledge and he says our sages never called them they called him he said even knowledge awareness
