we continue our study of the wisdom of King Solomon in the book of Proverbs Mish drawing timeless life lessons and moral insights As we approach the holiday of Shàuot and the giving of the Torah King Solomon teaches us a foundational principle the importance of truth and trustworthiness to be a person of integrity honest and reliable toward one's spouse family community and even toward oneself Because at times people deceive even themselves The message is be real be authentic In Proverbs King Solomon uses his signature metaphorical language to teach this idea Let's first examine the mashall parable and then draw the nimshell lesson He writes "He who breathes out faithfulness speaks righteousness." The Hebrew word yafyak means to exhale or blow Just as light objects can be blown away easily so too are this person's words natural and effortless but filled with reliability He who breathes out faithfulness refers to someone whose speech is so consistently truthful that even his casual words are trustworthy The word amuna faith in Hebrew has two layers of meaning Social reliability being someone others can count on spiritual faith belief in God and the Torah Let's begin with the basic day-to-day level A person who is known to speak truth Someone who has a reputation for honesty Never caught in a lie Never twisting facts That's what it means to breathe out faithfulness His words flow naturally and people trust them because he speaks from a pure heart He doesn't scheme or manipulate He speaks as he is genuine consistent dependable Then Solomon adds "He speaks righteousness."
