The ninth plague that was brought upon Egypt was the plague of darkness. The Torah says, "Vaya'eit Moshe as Yado al Hashamayim." "Vayehi choshech afeilah b'chol Eretz Mitzrayim." "Shloshes Yamim." It says that Moses stretched forth his hand towards the heavens and there was a thick darkness throughout the land of Egypt for three days. No man could see his brother nor days. No man could see his brother nor could anyone rise from his place for a three-day period. But for all the children of Israel "U'v'nei Yisrael hayah or b'mish'vosam." There was light in their dwellings. Many fascinating concepts here. Many details, many insights, and many lessons. Number one, Rashi tells us there were two sets of darkness. The first three days and the second three days. The first three days, "Lo ra'u." They didn't first three days, "Lo ra'u." They didn't see one the other. The second three days, "Lo kamu." They could not get up. The second three days, the darkness intensified, it became very thick. They could not move. The Egyptians could not move for three days. But all these days, the Jewish people had light. "U'v'nei Yisrael hayah or b'mish'vosam." There was light in their dwellings. There was light light in their houses. Now, what is the reason? What is the reason what is the reason? What is the reason for the fact that there was this darkness? Says Rashi, the first three days of darkness was for the fact that there were many Jews who did not believe in the Geulah, did not believe in the redemption.
