Shalom Aleichem, welcome to Lekutei Sichos, the Rebbe's magnum opus. Fantastic sicha volume 32 on the portion of Bamidbar. And um >> [snorts] >> What's special about this sicha? Every sicha is special for a different reason. Uh the Rebbe discusses something classic in the teachings of Torah and in the sages based on this week's portion. >> [snorts] >> It's a particular teaching of our sages. >> It's a particular teaching of our sages. But then the Rebbe points out that that teaching is found in Rashi, the commentary. It's also found in the Medrash Tanchuma, which is one type of Medrash, and it's found in Medrash um uh Rabbah, another Medrash. So, we have three classic sources, if you will, where the same message is given based on the same verses in the Torah. And yet, the message is conveyed differently. Ever so slightly, and as we'll see, not so slightly. It's quite obvious that uh so slightly. It's quite obvious that uh they're saying the same thing, and they're not. >> [snorts] >> And the Rebbe res- the Rebbe says, "Don't uh resist the temptation to say, 'Well, it's the same thing, you know, which is poetic, you know, the Medrash says it like this, and the other Medrash says it like that, and Rashi uses different verbiage, and makes it shorter or longer.'" No. Torah is perfect, and that includes the commentaries, the Rashi, the Medrash, and therefore, there's a reason why each one brings it differently, because ultimately, while they're saying the same thing, they're speaking about
