Today is the first day of the month of Av, Menachem Av, the fifth month of the year. And it's the day of the passing of Aaron HaCohen, Aaron the High Priest, who lived 123 years. In truth, these two concepts complement one the other, because today we intensify the mourning over the first and second Holy Temples. And we know that the Beit HaMikdash, the Temple, was destroyed because of sinat chinam, unwarranted hatred. And therefore, Aaron HaCohen, who represented unconditional love, comes today to remind us that in order to rebuild the third Holy Temple, we have to go outside of our comfort zone, and to help another person, and care for others, and love others. And this also is connected with the Medrish that says, "Ba Ari, b'mazal Ari." "V'hechriv es Ariel al menat sheyavo Ari b'mazal Ari v'yivneh es Ariel." And that is, that the Ari, the lion, which represents the king Nebuchadnezzar, came in the month of lion, the month of Leo, the month of Av, and destroyed the lion, the Holy Temple, al menat, on the condition, so that the lion, which is Almighty God, should once again come in this month of lion, and rebuild the lion, the third Holy Temple. So, we look to the Torah portion for direction, for inspiration, how one is supposed to live their life throughout these days, and prepare ourself for the third Holy Temple. In verse number six, the The beginning of the parashah, it says like this, Hashem Elokeinu, God our Lord, dibber eleinu, spoke to us, b'chorev. Chorev is
