atgmailcom hi everyone welcome to another edition of the sparm chatter podcast on this episode of the podcast I'm going to be joined by Professor Ronnie sha who is the Edward Earl Sparks professor of history at Penn State University and we'll be discussing um Trent the murder of rual trial in Trent in 1475 Simon of Trent rather famous or inFAMOUS um incident of a murder murderer ritual murder trial known as a blood level so thank you Professor sha for joining me my pleasure well perhaps I should say a a word as to how I got I should say a a word as to how I got interested in this because I'm not a specialist in Judaism and nor am I a specialist in Jewish history I really got into this um through my interest in German literature and German culture I mean I think everybody knows about the atrocities and the Nazis but I think what I was not prepar care for was to find out how what a long history of anti-Semitism had in Germany itself so anti-Semitism had in Germany itself so this was really a sort of accidental Discovery when I was doing research in the 15th and the 16th centuries so let me let me actually pull back for a minute before we even get there so if you don't mind telling the listeners a little bit about yourself and your backend especially you just mentioned that you're not really an expert on Judaism this is not exactly your general field of scholarship my general background is that um while I grew up in Hong came from a Chinese tradition but Hong Kong at the time of
