It has been said, don't live the same year 75 times and call it a life. Our mission is not just to live the same year over and over and over again, but every year to improve, to grow, to become the best of who we can be and to live our best lives yet. The Rambam tells us in Hilchos Teshuvah, Adam Maasai Teshuvah, a person should make an effort, work hard to do Teshuvah. Teshuvah is the theme of this month, to grow, to introspect, have self-awareness, to be able to improve our relationships with others, with Hashem, and importantly with ourself. But it's a funny formulation. When it comes to other mitzvahs, it says we're responsible, we're obligated, we're accountable. Doesn't say try to put on tefillin, try to keep kosher, try to be honest in business. It tells us what we have to do. And yet here, yishtadel, try. I think the Rambam is telling us that when it comes to personal change and growth, when it comes to breakthrough, it's very, very hard. It's nearly impossible. The best we can do is try. Yishtadel, it's our effort that counts almost as much as the result. We have to give it our best. How do we give it our best? The great Piaseczna Rebbe,
