At the surface, it's a time of negativity and sadness, a time of ais of grief, the nine days coming to tishab on Thursday. But like everything in Yiddish, there's a silver lining because on a deeper level, it's really days of transformation. That means it's not just a day of sadness which we hope to get rid of, but it's much more than that. It's an opportunity that invites the blessing of transformation. Transformation always means you're transforming something. What does transformation look like in our personal life? What does it mean to be able to go into those places and not only not break, god forbid, but actually transform? There's a medapi that a yumpt there's no yumptiff that's going to be as great as tishab. The question is, I understand it's going to be a nice day when Mashiah comes. We'll get rid of all the reason to mourn. But why should it be better than any other day should be like a regular day? The answer is because every darkness on a deeper level is an invitation. It's an invitation to much deeper awareness and transformation. Even if it doesn't feel that way, certainly initially that is what we want to address through the prism of how our sages saw this time of the year.
