The shiur in English

The Yanuka’s own words in this shiur, translated into English by Lehallel · 993 words · 5:29. Press a time to hear it said.

0:00 It is written in the Prophet Shmuel, in Shmuel I, chapter 8, verse 7: "And Hashem said to Shmuel: Listen to the voice of the people, to all that they say to you, for it is not you that they have rejected; it is Me that they have rejected from reigning over them."

0:25 The Holy One, blessed be He, did not love a king and did not want any king. He wanted to reign over us Himself. He wanted to be our King Himself. We did not ask for His kingship. This is a terrible and awesome fear. The responsibility of being in this generation is a fear. For how did the kingship of the Holy One, blessed be He, vanish from everyone?

0:52 Why do we not ask for Him as King? We must feel that we are servants of G-d, blessed be He. The Holy One, blessed be He, did not give any creature in the world kingship so that he should rebel against Him. He did not give any creature in the world money so as to rebel against Him. He did not give any creature in the world a crown, greatness and honor except in order to crown Him, blessed be He, as King.

1:16 There is a great and awesome G-d in heaven, whom all the creatures must praise and extol, glorify and exalt, and crown Him over every matter, in every place, small or great. We are obligated to bow before the King. When we bow down, all the vertebrae of the spine must stand out.

1:40 Rabbi Tanchuma said that Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi said: A person must bow, every vertebra, until all the vertebrae of the spine stand out. In Tractate Berachos, page 28, side b, when he prays; and if not, it is written in Bava Kama, page 16, side a, that the Holy One, blessed be He, will make it that in the grave, with the maggot and the worm, his spine turns into a snake. Crowning Hashem is not only shouting that He is King.

2:04 It is to know and to rely that we have a G-d in heaven, to lift the eyes to heaven and ask for His mercy, to ask for His revelation, to ask for His kingship, to bow before Him, to kneel before Him. If they ask for the Holy One, blessed be He, then the Holy One, blessed be He, will reveal Himself and redeem us. When we do not think of Him, blessed be He, the Holy One, blessed be He, holds back from revealing Himself.

2:32 If we ask G-d, blessed be He, to be King, and ask Him to reign, if they ask that they want Him to reign, then the Holy One, blessed be He, will reign. ...but when they do not ask, ...the Holy One, blessed be He, is more humble than... No one in the world will understand what the humility of Hashem, blessed be He, is. The Holy One, blessed be He - the angels call Him a humbled King. The Ramak explains at the beginning of the book Tomer Devorah that the Holy One, blessed be He, bears iniquity, and the angels call Him a humbled King.

3:03 That after a person sins, the Holy One, blessed be He, sustains the destroyers and the harmful forces. And the Holy One, blessed be He, is so merciful that even when an idol is set up in His holy city and strangers rule over it, and all over the world they plot about the place of the Beis HaMikdash, the Holy Temple, the holy place, the Holy One, blessed be He, in a single moment can cancel everything.

3:28 But the Holy One, blessed be He, is humble and bears all the creatures, all their opinions, all their thoughts, all their flaws and sins, and their distance, and their pride, and goes on sustaining everyone, providing for everyone, and bestowing on everyone. And no one takes to heart His kingship, blessed be He. But if they ask for Him, and ask that He should come, and ask that He should reign, then everyone will see how the Holy One, blessed be He, watches over us in Hashgachah, and they will see that He has mercy, for He, blessed be He, is full of mercy.

4:01 And not for nothing that so much time of exile has gone by, and the Holy One, blessed be He, has brought troubles into the world. And none of us knows what the thoughts of Hashem, blessed be He, are, what the Holy One, blessed be He, is thinking. But we only know that we can hold on to teshuvah. We can look at everything in the world and cry out, as the Rav (HaGaon Rabbi Y. Ezrachi) said earlier, with a cry, to cry out for the kingship of Hashem.

4:30 As the Rambam explains, and with this we will finish: "A person should always cry out about what is to come, and ask for mercy according to his strength, and whoever increases in thanking Hashem and praising Him always - this is praiseworthy." Remember this Rambam: Rambam, Laws of Blessings, chapter 10, law 26. Ask for the kingship of Hashem; cry out about it. Ask for this with a cry; that is what the Rambam explains.

4:57 We need comfort, that the Holy One, blessed be He, should comfort us, as it is written in Yeshayahu, chapter 66, verse 13: "As a man whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you, and in Jerusalem you will be comforted." "And you will see, and your heart will rejoice, and your bones will flourish like grass; and the hand of Hashem will be known to His servants, and His anger to His enemies." If they ask for the kingship of Hashem, then the Holy One, blessed be He, will reveal His mercy, and then we will in fact merit the light of the geulah.

In the book of Prophets it is written Shmuel Book 1 Chapter 8:7 And Hashem said to Shmuel, “Listen to the voice of the nation, to everything they are saying to you They have not rejected you; rather it is Me they have rejected as their king.” Hashem Baruch Hu (blessed be He) did not love the idea of a king, and does not want a king His will is that, He-Hashem-Himself should reign over us His absolute desire is to be our King We did not ask for his Kingship it is very terrifying The responsibility of being in this generation is terrifying How could it be that Hashem’s Kingdom has totally disappeared from everyone? Why are we not beseeching Him to be our King? We need to feel that we are the subjects of Hashem Baruch Hu never intended to bestow His Kingship so that people would rebel against it Hashem Baruch Hu never intended to grant money to people so that they would rebel against it He imparted to mankind Keter (Regal Crown) Gedula (Greatness) and Honor in order to make Him Yisborach (blessed be He) our King There exists a great and awesome God in the heavens That every creation is required to laud and praise Him To glorify and exalt Him That His sovereignty reigns over every issue, in every place, no matter how small or how large We are obligated to bend our knees before the King
