so good evening everybody and welcome to the first of a five-part series on the five books in five weeks and eight so this is a Torah crash course and we're going to go through a very brief and and quick overview of the entire Torah but before we do that it is critically important to understand what the Torah is and what it means to us is and what it means to us okay so before we do and before we go through each portion and discuss them I'm going to spend some time explaining and giving an introduction so to speak to the tour now it's a frightening thing to give an introduction to the Torah because the Torah is not like you know some random author writes a book and we're going to talk about the book and it's like we're gonna make creative book club you know this is the manual for life now what type of book is the Torah right one might ask what type of book is right one might ask what type of book is the Torah so is it a history book is it a story book is it a book of laws is it a book of Commandments is it a book of suggestions recommendations what type of book is the Torah you know I was once talking to someone and we were talking about the Ten Commandments he says you know it's ten suggestions alright so I can't help you if you think it's ten suggestions it's ten commandments but we're gonna talk
