The Yanuka — Rav Shlomo Yehuda

The shiur in English

The Yanuka’s own words in this shiur, translated into English by Lehallel · 1,118 words · 6:49. Press a time to hear it said.

0:00 I have already explained several times that Hashem, blessed be He, is humble and merciful, full of compassion, and when they do not seek Him, when they do not look for Him and do not want Him to reign, He is humble, so He does not seek to reign. Hashem, blessed be He, brings forth souls each time, and another generation and another generation, and again another person is born, and again he passes away, and again another one is born, and again he passes away, and so on and so on.

0:35 And so they go on being reincarnated, thousands and tens of thousands, beyond measure, of souls, and bodies, reincarnated since the day the Beis HaMikdash, the Holy Temple, was destroyed. And if we understand that the root of everything we go through, and all the tribulations, and all the pain, and all the sorrow, and all the suffering, and all the fear there is in the world, it all comes from the destruction of the Temple.

1:04 When you weep over the Temple, and you think and understand what was destroyed, what we are fasting for: We are fasting over everything: in place of Hashem's will and the revelation of His kingship, we went after our own will and the revelation of our own kingship. We need to tell Hashem that we feel the pain of the Shechinah, we feel the pain of the exile, we feel the pain of the falsehood of the world. The whole world does not see His kingship.

1:29 We want to see His revelation, His kingship, so that we will have no more sorrow, so that we will suffer no more. We want the revelation of His kingship, we want to hear from Him, we want to see the resurrection of the dead. When a person loses a relative of his, he truly longs for the resurrection of the dead, far more than someone else, because he understands that he has departed from him.

1:58 When we ask for the geulah, we are asking, in other words, for salvation, asking for rescue, asking for "He will swallow up death forever, and Hashem G-d will wipe the tears from every face," asking for the revelation of Hashem, asking: enough already of the darkness, and the death, and the exile, and the length of the exile, and the tribulations, and the suffering, and the troubles.

2:22 We need to understand: this is the Temple, when the Temple was standing, and when we better our deeds, the closeness to Hashem, blessed be He, will be the greatest. The revelation of His kingship, the fulfillment, the mitzvos, the Torah, the kedushah, the attachment to Him. And "for this our heart has become faint, for these our eyes have grown dim, for Mount Zion, which lies desolate; foxes walk upon it." The House of Hashem, the holiest and most exalted place, which connected us and brought us close to the root, to Heaven, look and see what is there.

2:56 Look and see the exile, the pain, the root of the character traits that was uprooted, the whole world, going after money, after honor, after falsehood, after desires, how they belittle the unfortunate poor, how they belittle simple people, how a simple and needy person, how a person who is poor and despised, a person — a person who is ignorant and a fool, they will call him a fool and scorn him, and so they will scorn all creatures and will not value the quality of the wise, they will not honor one another, they will not love one another.

3:31 They will be in competition, they will be chasing after honor, they will be chasing after money. They will try to perpetuate the falsehood in every possible way. This is the destruction of the Temple. Whoever thinks that we weep because Hashem, blessed be He, has no house, that is a disgrace, that is to disgrace our King. Hashem, blessed be He — He created this whole world.

3:57 And He gives it life and brings it into being at every time and moment, "for the world and all that fills it are Mine." "The world and all that fills it are Mine": everything in creation, it all belongs to Hashem, blessed be He. And thousands and tens of thousands more, beyond measure, of worlds and angels who praise and extol and glorify His great Name. And He needs nothing from us, only our will, only our eyes, only our heart.

4:22 This is what Hashem, blessed be He, wants from us. He wants our heart, the yearning, the will, the love, the emunah, the fear of Heaven, true and pure, in order to understand what we are doing in this world, and why we learn His Torah, and why we pray before Him. This is the meaning of Tisha B'Av. For this we stop every year, fast, and think to ourselves how we came to this destruction, how we came to the destruction of the Temple, when the Shechinah departed.

4:58 "Because of Kamtza and Bar Kamtza, Jerusalem was destroyed," because of that baseless hatred, in the hurt to honor and to the other fellow. We must feel, and bring to the principles of Hashem, blessed be He, beyond a person's selfish will and above a person's intellect and logic, where each one tries to picture in his mind his own will, and what he will do in the world, and how he will live for himself and for his children and for all that is his, but the opposite.

5:34 If a person stops and thinks: what is my purpose in this world? As the Imros Moshe said: "I am ashamed that the Temple was not built in my days." That is how he said it. This is what should pain us every single year, and therefore, the more people understand the true knowledge, so, through this, the glory of Hashem's kingship will be revealed, so, through this, we will understand what we are doing in this world, what we look forward to in this world and what our purpose is. And Hashem, blessed be He, wants from each and every one of you, each and every one is precious beyond measure, and the geulah depends on you, on each and every one, both man and woman.

6:24 Everyone can act and shine the light of Hashem, and must take responsibility and change, and shine the good in the world and drive out the darkness. And the more we do this, and unite, and understand in our minds what was destroyed and what we are fasting for, this — and in the merit of this — we will merit the complete geulah.
