uh the idea that shabbos is means of the same type category nature is a big theme it's a communic idea and it's the subject of a lot of discussion and it has a lot of ramifications a lot of applications it's the wrong sort of idea to ask what exactly does it mean and expect to get a one-line answer it's something which has connections to a very wide variety of ideas principles and i'm going to try to sketch some of them for you um there may be some common threads running through the group of associations but as i say i don't think it benefits from being tied down to a single definition first of all shabbos and the world to come both come at the end shabs comes the end of the week and the world becomes the end of history at least the end the history of our phase of the world and the uh a different condition and that different condition is eternal now this raises the question what is an end what's the category even end something that comes last and the answer is that coming last isn't univocal this isn't something that has only one definition or one association in fact there is a midrash that says if a person lives a worthy life then he is told that the whole the creation was for your sake like a king who orders a banquet for his close advisors the advisers arrive when the banquet is ready when it's finished prepared for them so the whole world is created and you are invited at the end to be partied at the celebration if he lives a unworthy life then he's told even the mosquito was created before you
