[Music] good evening I want to study with you tonight a piece of Talmud which at first glance seems somewhat enigmatic but first let me begin with an anecdote there was once a very wealthy Jew in a community but always refused giving charity for any causes of the community and his excuse was always I have a very poor brother who's destitute and has 11 children I who's destitute and has 11 children I have a poverty-stricken sister who has many children and doesn't have a penny to her name I have another brother who's very ill and also very poor so the local community thought knew he's rich but if he has to support so many families I guess his charity's already depleted and so for many years when they would come to him he would say listen I have a poor brother with 11 children and so on poor brother with 11 children and so on and so forth once they decided to investigate they wrote a letter to this man's brother and they said do you get money from your rich brother and he writes them back money for years I've been begging him to help me out in my desperate situation my sister has been begging me my other brother has been begging him and he always refuses us he never shared with us a single dollar they were furious how can he lie for so many years in such a vicious way they come running to him
