terrible day. We know that Yirmiyahu Hanavi was born on Tisha B'Av. He cursed the day of his birth. From time immemorial, from that very first Tisha B'Av that the Meraglim brought back their false report about Eretz Yisrael and they slandered Eretz Yisrael and the Ribono shel Olam said, "You cried for nothing. I'll give you good reason to cry." From that very Tisha B'Av, Tisha B'Av has been a lightning rod of tragedy. If there's a tragedy to happen, it If there's a tragedy to happen, it happens on Tisha B'Av. The Mishna says at the end of Taanis, the first Beis Hamikdash was destroyed, the second Beis Hamikdash was destroyed, Beitar was captured, Turnus Rufus plowed the city, the city of Alexandria, which was bigger than Beitar, was destroyed on Tisha B'Av. Community of England was expelled in the year 1295 in the year Koleh. Koleh Goresh Yigoresh. Koleh is 1295. Goresh Yigoresh. Koleh is 1295. The Jews of France were expelled on Tisha B'Av. The Spanish Inquisition happened on Tisha B'Av. I remember when I was a young boy and I was 12 years old about to become Bar Mitzvah I was walking to shul on Shabbos Tisha B'Av, a year like this year. My Bar Mitzvah was going to be the next Shabbos, Parshas Va'eschanan, and I was walking to shul on Tisha B'Av. It was in walking to shul on Tisha B'Av. It was in Flatbush, the Agudath Avenue L on East 29th Street, and I'm say "Daddy, where's the shul? What happened to the shul?" The shul burnt down on Tisha B'Av. So, if there's a tragedy to happen, it happens on Tisha B'Av. And yet we have this very unusual concept and teaching that Tisha B'Av is a Yom Tov. It's a holiday. Kara olai moed. It's a moed.
