areas in nutrition and people don't seem to know what to do with fats and oils in the diet some ways along the way we've been told that fats and oils are bad for us and that's certainly not true at all the fats and oils are actually an essential nutrient that the body needs we have something called the essential fatty acids which are basically the omega-3 and the omega-6 fats that are critical for health the but they're called essential because the body cannot produce them on their the body cannot produce them on their own and they're needed for many different functions in the body for example healthy fats contribute to the formation of cell membranes they cushion the organs of our body they transfer the fat soluble vitamins vitamin a d e and k throughout the body uh they produce prostaglandins which are hormones involved in controlling inflammation so if you don't have enough of the right healthy fats you can have an inflammatory response in the body and an inflammatory response in the body and they're important for the functioning of the blood vessels the brain cells the eyes and the skin so that about says it all fats are needed and they are important i think the concern or the concern should be is not so much on the amount but more so on the types of fats that's where we have to sort of uh make a differentiation so i will tell you that the best thing to try to do is

  7. 5:38hydrogenated fats and oils these are primarily man-made fats that are added or used in the
  8. 6:38which are polyunsaturated and which are essential but there's a certain ratio that has to exist
  9. 7:08omega-3 we are going to create an inflammatory response in the body and too much omega-6
  10. 8:08or using the extra virgin olive oil or the organic olive oils are really the best
