Parashat Bereshit, a new book of the Torah, and one of the most beautiful things I think is in the parasha, besides the Tree of Knowledge—which is something that needs to be understood in its own right—is the closing of circles that we see the Holy One, Blessed be He, performs. We are familiar with the secret of the Name; we see, we observe. When Cain kills, he killed his brother, so the Holy One, Blessed be He, asks: "What are you afraid of?" And God gave Cain a mark, that no one who found him would kill him. Okay, and then what happens? God tells him, "Wait." Then Lamech arrives, and Lamech sees his wives separating from him, and he complains about them, and they go to the First Man together with Lamech. Lamech says, "I have a dispute with them." Rashi brings two opinions. And finally it is written: " For Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, and Lamech seventy-seven." Two things we shall learn. The first thing: until the Holy One, Blessed be He, takes vengeance from Cain, Cain will not die. Cain could jump over valleys and mountains. He could go rappelling and skydiving without a parachute. It doesn't matter what happens. Not seven souls. Even with 70 souls, he will not die until he is murdered by someone the Holy One, Blessed be He, grants from Cain’s seed to bring him the long-awaited vengeance, which will be a rectification for his soul. >> All right? >> Unfortunately, Abel, what shall we do? Where is he? >> We did not merit. You say: "Well, it should have been Abel's seed, what can we do if Abel didn't leave a grandfather?" Cain’s seed is the only descendant. Lamech tells him: "Know this, there is a Mishna we know: 'On what you drowned, they drowned you, and the end of those who drowned you will
