And uh good to see you all this morning. Um good to be back. Um we will um so uh firstly let me just go over quickly the para and uh talk about this week and then we'll get to our topic for today. So this week's para is mishbatim. Mishbatim means loss. In last week's para, we had the giving of the ten commandments, the giving of the Torah when Hashem said the ten commandments to Israel. And then immediately after, Hashem gave Moshe a long list of laws. Hashem gave Moshe a long list of laws. Most of them are what we'd call civil law. In other words, how we should interact with each other as a people, as a society. um important part of um Judaism, not just the ritual laws but also how just to interact. Some of it is ritual. It begins by speaking about the laws of Hebrew slaves. We once did a class where we spoke about slavery in Judaism. Um it mentions in passing um the um rights of a wife has certain the um rights of a wife has certain rights that today are um recorded in the Kuba. Today we have additional rights in addition to those originally giving given in the Torah. Um we um uh the Torah then continues to tell us there's a death penalty um for um killing someone. Um it tells us if you kill accidentally, you must go they go you go to a city of refuge. Um hitting one's parents or cursing one's parents has a death penalty. Um so does kidnapping. Um then it tells us that if
