The Yanuka’s own words in this shiur, translated into English by Lehallel · 5,000 words · 35:00. Press a time to hear it said.

0:00 With the permission of the great Torah sages, with the permission of the esteemed rabbis, may they live long, and with the permission of the entire holy community gathered here for the joy of the completion of the Torah, on the occasion of the publication of the holy and exalted book from the Torah teachings of our Rebbe, may he live long, a book full and overflowing, a book deep and broad from the inexhaustible wellspring of our teacher, the Rav, the Gaon HaYanuka, may he live long.

0:36 We are in a time of darkness. We read in this week's Haftarah: "Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of Hashem has risen upon you, for behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and the glory of Hashem has risen upon you, and thick darkness the nations." The central message of this holy evening which we draw from the teachings of our Rebbe, may he live long.

1:08 The world is full of darkness. How do we illuminate and remove this great darkness? The Rav, may he live long, teaches us the foundation of foundations: that there is a special light in the world which the Holy One, blessed be He, hid away, called the Hidden Light.

1:33 And this Hidden Light need not be sought in distant places, it need not be sought across the sea nor in the heavens. The Hidden Light is found in each and every person, it is in his hand to toil in Torah and to reveal its hidden depths, to delve into it more and more, and thereby to illuminate himself, his soul, and from him light spreads to the whole world.

2:04 Our generation merited this special Hidden Light in the person of our Rebbe, the Gaon HaYanuka, may he live long, a light of Torah, a light of toil in Torah, a light of Torah in its holiness and purity, without stopping, "day and night they shall not cease." And today, at this exalted gathering, we merited a great piece of good news about Torah: that the words of Torah of the Rav, which for many years were Oral Torah, to turn the words, to sanctify them, purify them and refine them onto parchment, as the Written Torah.

2:54 For a long time many have sought knowledge and thirsted for the Rav's Torah in writing, to learn and delve into his broad and deep Torah, and the teachings were delivered in his many lessons as Oral Torah. Our Rebbe, the Rav, may he live long, repeated several times the concept of words of Torah that have poverty and have richness.

3:24 Poor in one place and rich in another. And who is greater than our teacher the Gaon HaYanuka, may he live long, who enriches the Torah, gathers together all the parts of the Torah, the entire Pardes of the Torah, Peshat, Remez, Derash and Sod, into one body, singular and unique, in which everything is included.

3:49 The new book that is now coming out with special joy for the completion of the Torah is the Hidden Light of which our Rebbe speaks, it is the Hidden Light that is able to remove the great darkness. Only this week the Jewish people wept over those who toil in Torah who were slaughtered by the hands of wicked men in a cruel manner, while their mouths murmured words of goodness and words of Torah.

4:24 And behold, it is in the power of this Hidden Light, which comes only through toil in Torah and not through anything else, in the power of this light to spread, to illuminate and to remove all those who interfere and all the accusers. An expanded team of a Torah institute, with esteemed Torah scholars, the finest editors in the world of the Torah book, toiled for a long period to gather all of the Rav's Oral Torah and to turn it into Written Torah.

5:08 Great toil and great effort. Those editors toiled to glorify his words of Torah, to magnify Torah and glorify it. Behold, we stand here today, having been kept alive, sustained, and brought to this time, at the publication of the first book in a series of books that are drawn from hundreds of lessons given over the years, thousands and tens of thousands of hours of recordings in which the entire Torah is included.

5:48 The inner dimension of the Torah the revealed and the hidden, and as we said, the entire Pardes of the Torah is included. I want to present to you now the list of books that are destined to see the light of day in the near future, and many say: "Who will show us good," how will we merit this great light, And behold, with Hashem's help, we are people of good tidings today.

6:16 Before we present the new book, which came out today, I want to tell about the future books, which, with Hashem's help, soon, a huge and long list of books from the Torah of our Rebbe, the Gaon HaYanuka. The list is long, and I will count off part of it.

6:41 The first book, "Derech Eitz HaChaim," five volumes. The second book, "Divrei Shlomo," from the Torah teachings of our teacher, the Rav, may he live long. "Kerem Shlomo," on the festivals, also a set of five volumes, thick and weighty. "Tefillah LeShlomo," a prayer book with explanations on the order of the prayers. How much we need, in this generation, the Rav's prayer, how much we need depth in prayer, how much we need to pave roads and to light up paths in prayer to our Father in Heaven.

7:19 The book "Bnei Shlomo," the Rebbe's lessons between the years 5779 and 5782. The book "Degel Machaneh Yehudah," containing novel Torah insights according to the order of the weekly Torah portions. A book called "Shut, Questions and Answers, 'Mat'amei Shabbos,'" a set of four volumes.

7:47 "MiShulchan Shlomo," a set of five volumes. "Kerem Shlomo," seven volumes. And this is a partial list of books that are destined to come out into the world for the benefit of all who seek the word of Hashem, those in the generation who thirst for Torah, who wish to see the Rav's Torah spreading further and further and taking the form of print in splendid books that will adorn every home in Israel, every beis midrash and every kollel.

8:25 Before we present the groom of the celebration, the central book that came out today, the great rabbis, may they live long, are with us here. I want to honor the Gaon Rabbi Zion Ashkenazi, may he live long, Av Beis Din of Rehovot, to deliver words of Torah and blessing in honor of this exalted and holy occasion. - My teachers and masters, today we merited to gather in honor of the Torah under the leadership of our teacher and Rebbe, the holy Gaon, Rabbi Shlomo Yehudah Beri, the Yanuka, whose greatness is together with his humility.

9:08 What humility, what lowliness of spirit, what listening and an ear for every person as he is, the small and the great, to lead everyone gently, to lead with health, to lead with calm, with a pleasant countenance, as if he were an only son. Each one receives the treatment of an only son, as if only he exists and there is no other beside him.

9:36 Such love of Israel. You see how long a list of books they spoke of before, but I think that is still only a short fragment. It is not yet the truth of the end, of the depth. As soon as you open the book here, at the first word I understood everything. He says there, the secret of the miracles, the root of the wondrous miracles is the spreading of the soul of Moshe Rabbeinu in every generation, and further on it is written that the soul of Moshe Rabbeinu is humility.

10:09 Who is greater than our teacher and Rebbe in humility, and therefore also the greatness in Torah and the greatness in all the other things. May it be the will that the Holy One, blessed be He, grant him to live long in health, and may we all merit to be written and sealed for a good life and for peace, and may our teacher and Rebbe lead us with love and with joy and in health, with contentment and calm, and may all the House of Israel have "Truly, G-d is good to Israel."

10:39 A good and blessed year. - Yasher koach to the honored Rabbi, may he live long. We now come to the highlight of this special evening, the presentation of the new book, the special book, the first in the series of books that we read out earlier.

11:03 This first book is called "Even Shlomo." It contains within it, I will tell you the exact number of pages, close to 400 pages, but one thing must be understood: this book, as is known, the Rav's lessons, the lessons that he delivers are long, full and overflowing. Here is a whole book that contains in total only five lessons, where each and every lesson is full and overflowing, including all parts of the Torah.

11:40 Many stories are told about the Rav, but I think that the great and true story is this book, it is the story of the Rav's Torah and his toil in Torah, toil and effort that have no end. In this book, "Even Shlomo," there is one lesson that speaks about the point called the Hidden Light.

12:05 We mentioned earlier that we are in a time of darkness. Through the light, and what is the light?! The light of Torah, we are able to illuminate the whole world and to remove this darkness. Our Rebbe, may he live long, tells us: how does one reach the Hidden Light, how does a person reveal within himself the powers of the Hidden Light. And I read from the new book that is now coming out into the world: "A true acquisition in the holy Torah, in such a way that the person himself is connected to the Torah.

12:50 This does not apply to superficial learning, but only through toiling in Torah to understand its depth and its secrets." The Rav continues and says in the name of Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin, in his book Nefesh HaChaim: "Through a person's engagement and contemplation in Torah in holiness, he attains a glimmer of light in the aspect of the soul within him.

13:19 That is, the light that bursts forth from the hewn parts of the soul beneath the Throne of Glory, and through them a person attains the secrets and depths of the world." How many days, says our Rebbe the Gaon HaYanuka, may he live long. All the stories, all the wonders, all the miracles, all that people talk about, there is one root if a person wants to reach Ruach HaKodesh, if a person wants to reach the Hidden Light, the Baal HaTurim says on the Torah, when the Holy One, blessed be He, created the light, the Baal HaTurim says: what is that light?

14:05 "The light" says our Rebbe, the Rav, may he live long, in gematria, is Torah. There is no, no, there never was and there never will be any way, any other possibility to reveal that light of the world. There is no other way to remove the darkness in the world without toil in Torah, without effort in Torah and without the revelation of ...

14:32 The Rav brings in the book in the name of our holy master the Baal Shem Tov: "And G-d saw the light, that it was good." The holy Baal Shem Tov says, bringing from the Sages: "That it was good," He saw that it was good to hide it away. The world was full of light, and people, Heaven forbid, thought to use that light for their own needs.

14:56 What did the Holy One, blessed be He, do?! He took this light, and stored it away for the tzaddikim, He hid the light. Where did He hide this light? Where is it? The light is hidden. Where is it concealed? Our Rebbe says in the name of the Baal Shem Tov: Our Rebbe, may he live long, says in the name of the holy Baal Shem Tov: The light is hidden in the holy Torah. Since it was a great light, that filled the whole world, one could gaze by it from one end of the world to the other, the Holy One, blessed be He, came and hid the light in the Torah, for the Torah is far greater by several thousand times than the world, as it is written in the Gemara, Tractate Eruvin, page 21, side a,

15:43 and one who learns Torah for its own sake merits that Hidden Light. Our Rebbe, the Rav, may he live long, concludes: It is clear from all the words of the commentators that the Hidden Light is found in the holy Torah, and through engagement in Torah we merit to reveal it. And how much this sentence, which is a fundamental sentence, anyone who even a drop merited to taste from the Torah teachings of our Rebbe the Gaon, may he live long, can understand and connect to the sentence that is written here: and the revelation of the Hidden Light is not only in the future to come, but in every generation it is revealed among those who toil in Torah.

16:32 And through it there is the power to overcome the evil inclination, for through the light that is revealed at the time of learning, the power of the inclination is nullified. My teachers and masters, this is the whole world, the whole world of Torah. You know, the Maharam at the beginning of Tractate Bava Kama says: "The world asks questions." Who is "the world" that asks? Go out into the street.

16:59 Who is the world that asks the question at the beginning of Tractate Bava Kama? The world is the world of Torah. The entire world of Torah rejoices and is glad, when the words of Torah of our Rebbe, shlita, go up onto the page of a book and merit distribution in an honorable way, in a prestigious way, in a way that will be learned by all who seek and thirst for knowledge.

17:24 They asked to announce that the new book that came out into the world today, can be purchased here during the evening. The book is outside, and during the evening it will be possible to buy it and merit this great and special gem, as we mentioned. We are now honored to hear words of blessing from the Gaon Rav Meir Sirota, shlita, of the rabbis of the Badatz of the Eidah HaChareidis, Jerusalem.

17:50 - Honored audience, we have come here to a day of great joy, for we have the book of the Yanuka, which explains things great in Torah, so that we may understand it a little and be able to come closer to the mitzvos through this book.

18:14 Baruch Hashem, when this book comes out into the world, and may there be much benefit from it, and may they learn from it, and may everyone enjoy the light of his Torah, and may we all have "great growth in Torah and fear of Heaven," and may we merit to greet our righteous Mashiach speedily in our days, amen.

18:40 We are honored with words of blessing from the Rav, the Gaon Simcha Elan, the chavrusa of Maran, the Sar HaTorah, the Gaon Rav Chaim Kanievsky, of blessed memory. We will hear from him words of blessing for the great joy. - With the permission of all the Rabbanim, the Geonim, shlita, each one according to his stature and honor, with the permission of the entire holy congregation, we find ourselves on a special day, on a day that has the joy of Torah, and surely in Heaven there is great joy that today a great light descends to the world, that another book comes out that connects us directly to the Holy One, blessed be He, another layer in the world of Torah.

19:41 But nothing in the world is by chance, in this case too the Holy One, blessed be He, orchestrates everything. I want to tell a short story, that... It was more than 35 years ago, on this day, on the 18th of Elul.

20:06 I merited, and as he said, I merited for almost a decade, to sit and learn with the gadol hador, our teacher Rav Chaim Kanievsky, of blessed memory, twice a week. And one day in Elul, I'm not talking about today, when there are cell phones that can call from anywhere, Rav Chaim says to me, today I ask that, exceptionally, you go downstairs, there was a phone then, call from there, and ask the lady, the Rebbetzin, shlita, ask her, if uh, you will be if she permits that today you will not return, we lived in Jeru... we live in Jerusalem, and the Rav in Bnei Brak, if this evening you could not return home, but only tomorrow morning.

21:09 But it must be with her permission. And he said, ... Okay, I returned, I said, the homemaker, with the children, he said okay. We finished, and he We finished, and he tells me he wants me to accompany him to a wedding.

21:36 We arrived at the wedding, and Rav Chaim at this wedding behaved not as was his way. Rav Chaim would arrive, usually receive a "berachah acharisa," and afterwards mazal tov and leave. This time, at the end of the chuppah, he sits down at one of the tables and asks me, call the groom's father.

22:00 I call, and he asks him: So, how was the chuppah? How was the joy until now? And then he asks him please, that... please of you, when the wedding is over, come to my house before you go home. Come to my house.

22:25 I have a request, it doesn't matter what time it will be, I am waiting for you. Good. Good? We go home, and... in the late hours of the night, there is a knock on the door, and the groom's father after the wedding sits with him, he does not talk with him words of Torah, and not any mussar, and Gemara and halachah, nothing.

23:01 And how was the wedding, and how was the band, and how was the food, and there was dancing, and how were the guests? Did they enjoy? And he talks. And at the end of the talk, as much as Rav Chaim was always said to be sparing with his words, this time he simply goes on at length and talks with him about all the trivialities of the world.

23:25 And then he comes and says, and then he says to him, may it be with mazal tov, you can go home, and I have just one request, if you want us to come to some sheva berachos, the Jew goes out the door of the house and leaves, and then Rav Chaim looks and says to me: Surely, you did not understand. Sit, I want to tell you.

23:50 This Jew who sat here just now, is a Jew who two years ago became a widower, remained a widower. And this young man who got married tonight, today the 18th of Elul, is his youngest son. And when usually father and mother marry off a child, the wedding ends, they come home, the wife wants to tell a few things, or they sit maybe over a cup of tea, over a cup, with some cake or something, and afterwards they go to sleep, to prepare for the continuing sheva berachos.

24:31 But this Jew, Baruch Hashem, all of his are already married, and now the last son goes with the bride to the new home, and this Jew will go and open the door, and and we finish alone, empty. And I decided tonight to be his wife, to make him happy.

24:58 So I sat with him, and to gladden a Jew, and then he said to me a very strong sentence: "Today I bought the kvittel of Hoshana Rabbah." That is how Rav Chaim said to me: "Today I bought the kvittel of Hoshana Rabbah" because today I merited to gladden a Jew with great joy, for if not, he would have come to a house of sadness and feel that he is nothing."

25:26 Our teacher, shlita, the Rav, the Rav, he is a Jew who wants, he is of enormous greatness, know that he loves every Jew, and if he has an opportunity to gladden every Jew, he will do it. And this is immense greatness, and the Holy One, blessed be He, says to him, and the Holy One, blessed be He, says, and once once the Rav told me, the Rav, shlita, once told me: "Know, that one who feels distress at another's distress, and rejoices in another's joy, the Holy One, blessed be He, gives him the power of chiddush Torah, and opens gates for him."

26:07 And the Rav merits all these things, I am not, I am too small for... but the Rav loves every Jew, and wants to gladden every Jew, and he has the... and in this merit he merited immense greatness in Torah. So Baruch Hashem we have merited, may we all merit, on this day, that with the help of Hashem all of us be written and sealed this Rosh Hashanah, for great salvations, and for a good writing and sealing, and that the Rav merit, with the help of Hashem, always to magnify Torah and glorify it, amen.

26:40 - Yasher koach to the honorable Rav for the wonderful words. Maran the Gaon the Yanuka, shlita, will enter the hall in just a few minutes. In the meantime we will hear brief words of blessing from the Gaon Rav Avrohom Greineman, shlita, Rosh Yeshivas Mekor Chaim. - that one can still speak before the Rav arrives. When the Rav arrives I will no longer want to speak, I will not merit to speak but fortunate are we, fortunate are we that we have all gathered here together.

27:07 All of us came here with one purpose. First, all of us with endless gratitude to our teacher the Rav. The light that each of us received from the Rav, is found deep, deep within each one of us. And... I come here, first of all for this, first of all gratitude to the Rav. Our Jewish lives are nourished by the light we receive from him, from the depth of it.

27:37 Second, we gathered here for the honor of the Torah, yes, for the honor of the Torah, for the honor of Hashem, blessed be He, to strengthen ourselves that there is a way, there is a way to serve Hashem correctly, truthfully, in a connected way. And this is one of the main things one can learn from the Rav, it is the way a Jew should look.

28:02 A Jew should love his reality, love his life, love how he is, and from this he can also love Hashem, love Hashem's leadership of the world, and connect to the Torah and all the mitzvos. This is the way in which we want to strengthen ourselves, to part from all the wrong things that stuck to our lives.

28:30 From all the fears, from all the tensions, from all the competitions, we want to part from all the unnecessary things and leave only the true, correct, simple service of Hashem, which is what is required of us and what we merit in our days, that this light is revealed more and more, and especially this is what we hear from the Rav and this is what all of us are here for, with a clean heart, a heart that came to seek truth, a heart that came to seek closeness to Hashem, and with the help of Hashem may we all merit this, and merit a good year.

29:11 - Yasher koach to the honorable Rav, and now we will hear words of Torah and blessing from the great Gaon, Rabbeinu Moshe Mordechai Karp, shlita. - Before the whole congregation and assembly, "The heart knows the bitterness of its soul." They laugh and [unclear], but it is hard to refuse. I think that here it is truly spoken but it is hard to refuse. Especially since here it is truly spoken truly in...

29:47 our Rabbeinu, the great Gaon, the tzaddik, beloved friend ? We will tell one thing, that we always come to the Rav, one thing we sing with him, one thing we sing without stopping.

30:12 "One thing I asked of Hashem, that I will seek; that I may dwell in the house of Hashem all the days of my life, to behold the pleasantness of Hashem and to visit in His Sanctuary." We sing and sing and do not stop. Because this is our essence. Our essence, "One thing I asked of Hashem, that I will seek." How does one merit all the attainments?! Known things, that the Rav merited many attainments at such a young age, from Heaven they granted him.

30:40 Much, much influence. But one does not merit this easily. One must work in order to merit. To be attached to the holy Torah, attached to the service of Hashem. The main thing, what characterizes the Rav, is that not in his presence, I can speak, in front of him he does not like this. The humility that... .... and the simplicity that every Jew hears, this is the power of his influence.

31:10 There are many who say all kinds of things, all his stature, and the essence of the Rav is humility. Today, his test is much greater, and one sees no change at all. ... ... And one sees no change in him, the same, the same conduct, the same simplicity, the same attire, the same way. Of Moshe Rabbeinu it is written: "And Moshe descended from the mountain to the people."

31:35 ... And he descended straight to the people. Without any change, without any this, all of the Jewish people see Moshe Rabbeinu in his humility ... So the Rav descends, his simplicity, his humility, with all (the glorification?) all the honors and respect that are given to him, it does not affect him, because he is this. Truly it is an example that radiates that truly radiates humility, and fear of Heaven, and that is truly his merit, that truly he truly, merits truly that he influences, that truly very many people draw close, we always speak about this, that..., ... and that he was sent to the world truly, he truly merits to bring them close to people through the counsel of Hashem, and how many people are drawn after him, he merited.

32:12 He truly merits to bring many people close to the service of Hashem, and how many people are drawn after him, he merited. Because of the humility, because of the simplicity, of course all the greatness in Torah, and all this, everyone sees it, but not this, also Moshe Rabbeinu, of whom the Torah speaks. The Torah does not recount the greatness in Torah of Moshe Rabbeinu, it is written in the Midrashim, what happened when he was born, that he this, everything was good.

32:36 What the Torah tells about Moshe Rabbeinu, the simplicity of his self-sacrifice, for "And Moshe arose and saved the people," yes, "And he saw an Egyptian man striking a Hebrew man, of his brethren," "And he said to the wicked one, why do you strike your fellow," he offered up his life, (and Moshe was tending the flock of?) Yisro his father-in-law, the priest of Midyan, (after the desert?) and he offered up his life for the Jewish people, he said ... Moshe Rabbeinu, the Faithful Shepherd, this the Torah tells about Moshe Rabbeinu, his self-sacrifice for the Jewish people.

33:10 Yes, all the attainments, all this of course, but what ... to save the Jewish people, for a perutah, for midnight, for this, so it comes in to lead with you, okay, no? ... for the flock, ... ...may he lengthen his days and years truly. All the heart, ... ... his blessings, Truly. May he lengthen his days and years, truly.

33:37 that he merit further to bring merit to the many. And the Rav went out ... the redemption, this day "This is the day Hashem has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." ... truly, that the main thing is the publication of the Rav's books. Truly there are very, very many ... of his lessons, in fact he ... he was speaking... he would speak like a flowing spring, it was impossible to stop, really, one can hear recordings of this.

34:05 Today he already lowers a little, he already speaks with more pauses, more simply ... there are there many talks of chizuk and many chiddushim and many, truly, ideas at times of kedushah, many, many, many, wonderful chiddushim. It is evident that it is truly speech of fear of Heaven and without any error that bring the Jewish people close ...

34:29 ... this is the day, it is the great joy truly, of the treasury of books ... the first book comes out, "Even Shlomo." Truly there is there very, very much from the Rav's lessons, that the Holy One, blessed be He, truly will merit further to add, there are many, many books on the way. ... May we truly merit to see all the books speedily, that everyone, in the merit of the book, will truly merit to be written in the Book of Life, and a good writing and sealing in the merit of the Rav.
