Yakov Avinu is leaving the land of Israel. He's heading out into the wilderness, out into galus, out into the exile. He had to find his wives to start the people of Israel, 12 tribes. Vayeitzei Yakov miBe'er Sheva, the very first pasukim of our parsha. Yakov first pasukim of our parsha. Yakov leaves Be'er Sheva, the home of his father. Vayeilech Charana. He heads towards Charan. What a contrast. Avraham Avinu, Abraham, left Charan on his way to the holy land. And Yakov has to head out back to his grandfather's original home. Vayifga bamakom. He reached a certain place. Vayalen sham. He went to sleep ki va hashemesh, the sun had set. Vayikach me'avnei hamakom vayaseim Vayikach me'avnei hamakom vayaseim mera'ashotav. He took from the stones of the place, place he put them used them perhaps as a pillow or he he put them around his head. And he slept in that place. And he has his famous dream. Vayachalom vinei sulam mutzav artza. He sees the He sees the ladder based on the earth rising up to the heavens. He sees the malachim olim v'yeridim bo. malachim olim v'yeridim bo. The angels going up and down. Really a lot of beautiful, beautiful concepts that are taught based on these verses. I'd like to share with you a few different pieces in the midrash. I actually have three different pieces prepared. And there's really some awesome, awesome ideas. Before even reading the first piece, Chazal say Yakov Avinu, vayifga bamakom, is a concept of prayer. It's a concept of tefillah.
