0:00 The virtue of Rosh Chodesh is higher than a festival, for the fire of Gehinnom does not rule on the day of Rosh Chodesh. So writes Maran the Chida in Birkei Yosef, siman 419: on the day of Rosh Chodesh the virtue is greater. Why? Shabbosos and Roshei Chodashim - this is from the creation of the world, which were given to us. And the festivals are named for the miracles and wonders that the Holy One, blessed be He, did for us, so they became for us a remembrance - festivals. But the holy Shabbos day, the day of Rosh Chodesh, this is a remembrance of the work of Creation, this is the beginning of creation, this is the beginning of everything.
