welcome to the latest lecture for this evening or morning or afternoon wherever you are in the world what's in a name the concept of names in jewish thought so what we're going to do is to sort of give you an outline of what we're going to do this evening is we're going to explain the concept of names in jewish thought a shame in jewish thought using different sources and different instances of the usage of the word shame word shame we're going to also explore different etymological relatives of the word shame that are related to the same root as the word shame and see how they relate to the same idea as shame and then at the end we're going to discuss how all of this relates to the destruction of the base of english which where all the jewish people are mourning at this time of the year during the three weeks and we're going to see how it teaches us a lesson that we can understand what happened with the destruction of the base of mindash and you know what it means for us like what you know what it means for us like what is it telling us what are we supposed to do and what do we do with that information so our sort of point of departure for for this evening's lecture is actually an obscure passage in the end of one of this week's partials this week we're reading on shabbos the last two partials of say for bamidbar matas and masai so there's a fairly random obscure uh passage at the end of paris that we're going to start for our focus on that
