The shiur in English

The Yanuka’s own words in this shiur, translated into English by Lehallel · 3,135 words · 35:54. Press a time to hear it said.

0:00 Do you know, there was Rabbi Yehoshua of Galanta - have you heard of him? He was about 100 years ago, before the Second World War. before the First World War. And there were several communities that had rabbis there, who came there, and every rabbi who came to the community told them: no harm will befall you, everything will be fine, nothing will happen to you, you will have protection from Heaven, stay here, everything will be fine.

0:38 And that whole community was [unclear]. Rabbi Yehoshua of Galanta, when he arrived in some town, he said to them, to the Jews who were there, he said to them: I will tell you the whole truth. You are about to be slaughtered, about to be led to the slaughter. I suggest that you think well, that you not blemish the offering, that there be no thought of piggul. You are offerings.

1:05 You are now about to die for the sanctification of Hashem's Name, accept it with love. Do not think a thought of piggul, do not disqualify the offering; you yourselves will be the offering. And that is indeed how it was, and that community indeed took teshuvah upon itself and prepared itself and passed away. And what is the hint here that is telling us? There is in this story a great deal of depth.

1:34 There are also such words from Rabbi Amrit of Belz, Rabbi Yissachar [unclear], what the Sages taught in Tractate Yoma, page 42a, that in fact, if we look we will see that many times we see a reality in the world where a person, sometimes they say words of encouragement to a person, they strengthen him, but the truth they do not tell him.

2:07 And what I am coming to say is that as much as we see the Holy One, blessed be He, in the prayers and everything, we must know that Hashem, blessed be He, is a G-d of truth, and one must know to be very, very, very, very careful in His way. You know, the world is always afraid to deal with sharks, with snakes, with criminals.

2:36 He says: I will not deal with such people, I do not deal with them. Afraid that they will harm me, does not want to deal with them. But with Hashem, blessed be He, everyone is not afraid to deal, they do what they want. Each one does whatever he desires. He thinks that the Holy One, blessed be He, 'You thought that I would be like you.' The Holy One, blessed be He, says to a person: do you think I am like you?

3:01 I do not see you. A person, as if he does not see Hashem, so he feels that the Holy One, blessed be He, does not see him either. And from here in fact begins true fear of Heaven. That now we are approaching Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, the Days of Judgment, and the Holy One, blessed be He, judges each one of us.

3:27 And in fact, what is this judgment about, you know, the judgment where the Holy One, blessed be He, looks at us and says, what do I leave you in the world for? What are you doing? What are you changing in the world? Now every person is judged, man is judged, they judge him, Rosh Hashanah arrives, all creatures pass before Him like bnei maron, one by one, the Holy One, blessed be He, all are reviewed in one review, in one moment all are judged.

3:56 And in fact this judgment, the creatures, the Holy One, blessed be He, judges them, whether for life or for death. They judge the person and say to him: what are you doing here in the world? What are you doing? Who are you? What are you? Why leave you here in [unclear]? Every year there is the same judgment. Every year the Satan says: come on, take him, he is already the same every year, he does not change.

4:21 This person has no remedy, he goes around like this, he does not change. Come on, finish with him, take him. The Holy One, blessed be He, looks and says: no. I will look for a merit in him. Advocates come, mitzvos come, good deeds, tzaddikim, the attribute of kindness, they say: give him another year, give him another chance.

4:47 And that is how it rolls along. After that they judge the person on Yom Kippur. What does that mean? If we marked this person, and they say, good, let us wait and see, he does not change, but still he is left hanging, that is, he does not have many merits on one side, he also does not have many transgressions, they do not know what to do with him. They leave him hanging until Yom Kippur. On Yom Kippur he strives more, he invests more, prays with more intention, is more remorseful, they say: let him pass.

5:19 What am I coming to say to you? In order to live you need a purpose. We live here in this world without a purpose. To live every day, to get up in the morning and in the evening, and to think that this is just to get through another day and another night. And the Rebbe of Kotzk once said: I so desire to see the future that the whole world will reach. That is what he said once. Where is this future that the whole world runs and will reach after?

5:47 This is the future that everyone runs after the future. All the time a person gets up and says he works for some day that will come, and it turns out that this day never comes, that day. And therefore we must always give our attention to the true purpose, because at the moment when a person in the end [unclear] the measure, it is no longer possible to help.

6:12 I always say that the seal is sealed with the king's ring, it cannot be revoked, it is not possible to turn back. If the Holy One, blessed be He, seals the seal and what is decreed is decreed on a person, he can no longer get out of it. It will not help, it is no longer possible to help, but before, it is possible. And everything that you see in the world, people to whom it happened, that in the end they leave the world, it is always possible to save through a change of deeds, thoughts and good conduct.

6:45 We need to be better people, and also on one hand to show what our reason is in this world. What are we living in the world for? What are we doing? How are we changing? After all, we are guests here in this world. We [unclear] here, this is not our home. This is not our home. Each one is like a hotel. He stays here for nights. We stay here in this world for nights.

7:11 How much does a night cost? We do not know how much it costs, but every night we see here some of Hashem's kindness. Rabbi Yaakov Culi writes in the Me'am Lo'ez, have you heard? The author of the Me'am Lo'ez writes in his commentary on Megillas Esther. One of the things he writes is that 'on that night the king's sleep was disturbed.' This is one of the things he writes there, that if a person's sleep is disturbed at night it is also a sign that he is being judged.

7:41 It is a sign to the person that he must awaken and return to the Holy One, blessed be He, because he is being judged. That is, there is a judgment on him. If a person cannot manage to sleep a continuous night's sleep, it is a sign that he is being judged in Heaven. He must improve his deeds. It is written, 'on that night the king's sleep was disturbed.' When they say to a person: wake up, return, [unclear] your deeds. Start searching yourself hard, think about your purpose, and why should you run after vanity.

8:12 And then when suddenly a person changes his deeds, he says: I have a purpose in the world, so I have a goal. So already his whole outlook toward Heaven can be the most relaxed in the world. He has the greatest insurance. That he can pass through easily, with laughter, the accusers and the [unclear] on Rosh Hashanah and on Yom Kippur, and can even laugh at them. To such an extent.

8:36 Where do we find this? Let us see [unclear]. Now we see proof for this. Right, but with whom was it? Do you remember? You know the story. I will tell you [unclear]. Who had the greatest accusers upon him? Yitzchak Avinu. Yitzchak.

9:02 Why did Yitzchak have an accusation that he should never come into the world, and once he had come into the world there were accusations to take him from the world. There was no soul like Yitzchak's, and therefore Yitzchak was also helped by gevurah; he is the symbol of the gevuros, and he is all the dinim, therefore he also sweetens the dinim. Therefore the importance of Parashas HaAkeidah, which we say every day, Parashas HaAkeidah annuls harsh judgments. Every day that we say Parashas HaAkeidah, it annuls harsh judgments.

9:29 And you should know another thing as well, that the segulah in the name of the early tzaddikim, that whoever is in a time of trouble should say Parashas HaAkeidah seven times, straight and backwards, and he will have a miracle above nature. That is, three times, as it were, all of this straight, backwards. Straight, backwards, straight, backwards, straight, backwards, straight. The last time straight, did you understand?

10:03 - Okay, this is... - What is this? - Yes, yes, yes, yes, no, no, no, - Yes. When we look at Yitzchak Avinu and we see that he was bound with might, he went through gevuros and difficulty to live, and they slaughtered from him a quarter of blood, his soul left, he flew up above, and he sat and learned Torah with angels, and afterward He returned him to this world.

10:40 The thing was that he would walk standing on his hands and would walk upside down, because they saw that upside down is in fact the right world. The logical world is right, and below no. But when he came into the world, in fact we see at the beginning that the Holy One, blessed be He, says to Avraham Avinu, asks him, why did Sarah laugh? What, how can Sarah laugh? What are you making of me, to laugh?

11:07 What, is there something funny here? Rather, here we learn that Avraham Avinu had a goal. Avraham Avinu's goal was to crown the Holy One, blessed be He, as King in the world, but he had a very big difficulty. How can I crown the Holy One, blessed be He, if I have no offspring who will crown Him? That was a sorrow for him. Now, Avraham Avinu's sorrow was not that he had no son to walk with him with a stroller in the street. Like the world in sorrow, they say to me, there are no children.

11:33 It was not distress over the children, that is not what concerned Avraham Avinu. Avraham Avinu himself was ready to put himself on the altar. Avraham Avinu's sorrow was: who will reveal my knowledge in the world? Who will reveal the kingship of the Holy One, blessed be He, in the world? Who will do it? Who will give attention to the purpose? And Avraham Avinu suddenly understands that there is no one who will do it, he must have a son just for this.

11:57 And his whole prayer was that someone would reveal His kingship. Immediately the Holy One, blessed be He, hears his prayer. Anyone who [unclear] the name of Heaven in his distress, they [unclear] his livelihood. A person mentions to the Holy One, blessed be He, and says: Master of the world, give me a big house so that I can do in the service of Torah, hospitality, give me a big and pleasant sukkah so that I can bring in guests, to make a meal, to learn, to teach, give me, to know Hashem, a good car so that I can drive people to do acts of kindness, give me a good livelihood so that I can support families, to do acts of kindness.

12:37 Ask the Holy One, blessed be He, for your physical things for the sake of greater spiritual goals. You also merit greater abundance, because [unclear] his livelihood. He calls him one who [unclear] the Name, who says to the Holy One, blessed be He, Master of the world, give me something physical, after all [unclear] the world, that a person lives without any purpose whatsoever, Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai says in Tikkun 6 of Tikkunei Zohar, page 22b, that he is like a dog that shouts hav, hav, hav, hav, hav, hav, all the time he wants and wants and wants, without a purpose to give.

13:14 And therefore here Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai explains to us that the purpose, the true goal of man in this world is to change the creations. Therefore the greatest gift that the Holy One, blessed be He, can give a person, do you know what the greatest gift is? That a person will change. To change is the greatest thing, to change the habits, to change the [unclear] and to change the traits and the thought.

13:39 A person who accepts upon himself to change in his perceptions and in his opinions and [unclear] on his purpose and to be true, not to play with the Holy One, blessed be He, because the Holy One, blessed be He, is everything. One who goes with Hashem, blessed be He, this way, the Holy One, blessed be He, will go with him, or this way He will go with him. [unclear] one in the mouth, one in the heart, when a person tries to deceive, when a person tries to lie. The Holy One, blessed be He, loves a person who is true, one who is clean, true toward his Creator, true toward the creations, brings peace, makes true peace, upright, clean of hands, pure of heart, you know, Psalm 15 in Tehillim.

14:18 There is a custom in communities 200-300 years ago, you can see it, that some had the custom to say it, some did not have the custom to say it. What is this, like who can even be one who walks wholeheartedly and does righteousness, speaks truth in his heart? These are the most elevated traits; they say, in a house of mourning they did not have the custom to say it. So as not to arouse an accusation against the mourner, lest he did not behave like these traits. To such an extent, this is a psalm in Tehillim, what is there here that is so much to slander him with?

14:47 It comes to teach us, see how much the good traits, the true right path of man in this world, this is what is most important for a person to do. May it be His will that the Holy One, blessed be He, grant us this, that we always think good, [unclear] ourselves on our true purpose, and to be attached to the Holy One, blessed be He. I will first of all say only what I said, that the reason for lighting the bonfire on Lag BaOmer, that we light the fire, another reason, Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai says, it is better for a person to throw himself into a fiery furnace and not shame his fellow in public.

15:28 And because Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai said that it is better for a person to throw himself into a fiery furnace and not shame his fellow in public, we light bonfires on Lag BaOmer, in order to remember the statement of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, who said that it is better for a person, a person should always remember, you light this fire, you should [be willing] to enter this fire, and do not shame your friend. It is better for him to throw himself into a fiery furnace, in public in front of his friend in public, this is the reason that we light bonfires every year on Lag BaOmer, in order that we remember that we may enter this fire, and not shame anyone in public.

15:58 - [unclear], this is a story you had with our teacher and rabbi. - With respect. - So they told me first of all to speak in Hebrew and you in French, in honor of the host. So a year ago, I am telling the background, like, a girl was born to us seven years ago who passed away after six months, something rare in the brain, and this, and thank Hashem, for seven years every year my wife was pregnant, and twice a year she had miscarriages, and it was hard, thank Hashem, and we were [unclear] in a test, I think, and I have, thanks to the host here whom I do not know, I did not know him until today, and my friend, Shimon, who said to me, go to the Rav and ask him, what is it? What, seven years?

16:56 Every year there are two miscarriages, [unclear], and, what, very hard, so maybe it is not worthwhile that we have more children and so on. So I went to the Rav, a year ago exactly, and the Rav said to me, look, first of all, you need to check your ketubah and check that there are no mistakes in the ketubah, and then take it, because it is also a segulah, take the ketubah and do, try, like every week, like once a week finish Maseches Kesubos and Mishnayos with the [unclear] and then after that do Tehillim 120, and with Hashem's help I would like to come to the Rav and say to him, he told me afterward that your wife gives birth, with Hashem's help, then come tell me.

17:49 So I came today especially for this because I wanted to speak with the Rav and say that a daughter was born to us about three months ago. And thank Hashem, we are very happy, and then to discover this, it is really... To thank Hashem. Yes, to thank Hashem, and really Mizmor LeSodah. and here [unclear], thank Hashem, [unclear].

18:44 [unclear], thank Hashem, [unclear] to the Rav, [unclear] Maseches Kesubos, [unclear] ketubah, [unclear]. But on the subject, thank Hashem, [unclear]. [unclear], thank Hashem.
