Rabbi Dobe thank you for joining me you wrote a book called mastering life what does it actually mean to master our life wow that's a good question in general most people seem to be a victim to their circumstances victim to their outside world so most people get their happiness based on what happens to them if their football team wins then they're happy football team loses then they're sad nice weather happy bad weather sad people like their social media post they're happy don't like it they're sad so people are basically a victim to so people are basically a victim to their outside world and also their sense of self self-esteem if you think I'm cool if I'm saying the right thing wearing the white thing I got the right body I'm drinking the right thing got the right phone then I feel good about myself and if I'm not getting recognition from other people then I don't feel good about myself so self-mastery is the ability to choose how I think and how I feel and how I act in the world rather than just being a victim and reacting to what's going on around me you mentioned happy should we be chasing happiness in be chasing happiness in life should we be chasing happiness I think happiness is what most people want whenever I ask people what do you want in life everyone says I want to be happy but I think if we're chasing happiness we'll never really get there what we should be doing is we should be investing in the things that are going to bring happiness for example having a goal having a clear goal in life to impact the world in a positive way or to improve my character traits or to to have some sort of project in the world once we feel that we're reaching a
