The Gemara at the end of Masechet Chagigah discusses that when Am Yisrael Chagigah discusses that when Am Yisrael would gather together would be olah l'regel make the pilgrimage to the Beit Hamikdash during the three festivals Pesach, Shavuot, and Sukkot in order to show how beloved Am Yisrael was to Hakadosh Baruch Hu the Kohanim would pick up would lift the shulchan with the lechem apanim and bring it outside to the Azarat Yisrael where Am Yisrael stood and they showed them and they said, "Look, nine-day-old bread.
