welcome to Sparks of History where Jewish history and world history meet we are very honored and pleased that with us today Rabbi Ruan trads Rabbi Trad bur received his ba from Carlton University and rabic ordination SM from REITs at Yeshiva University for decades Rabbi tradir served as a synagogue communal leader and Rabbi in North America including as an assistant Rabbi at the Young Israel Staten Island rabbi of Kessa Israel synagogue in Birmingham Alabama and for 15 years as Rabbi of Kila Shar Torah in Toronto Ontario currently Rabbi Trad is the director of the Israel Office of the ritical Council of America the RCA additionally Rabbi Trad burgs helps run the RCA Mone Milton and English language conversion preparation course in Jerusalem Israel in partnership with shave Israel and of course Rabbi tradir is the weekly writer of the Aliyah by Alia column in the very popular Torah tidbits magazine thank you Rabbi Trad burgs for being with us we appreciate it very much thank pleasure uh just by way of background what is the rabinal Council of America RCA and how is it represented in Israel today um okay so the uh the retical Council of America is really a a fraternity for rabbis um it started many years ago 75 or more years ago um as a way for rabbis to be able to gather to support each other um to develop professional skills um and to uh be there for each other I think in in kind of the more modern era um it's it changed a little bit because the rabbis role has changed uh so much so the RC is really a fraternity of rabbis there over a thousand rabbis um but the rabbis role has changed so much that
