Shalom Aleichem. Welcome to the weekly Parshah with Breslov Research. This week, after Tisha B'Av, Shabbos is called Shabbos Nachamu. It's so called because the Haftarah that we read on Shabbos begins with the words Nachamu Nachamu Ami, Yomar Elokechem. Be consoled, my nation, will HaShem say. But let's begin with the Parshah first. VaEschanan El HaShem, Moshe Rabbeinu says, I pleaded to HaShem. The word VaEschanan, if you take the numerical value of the letters, called numerology/Gematria, it adds up to 515. The word tefillah, prayer, Taf, Peh, Yud, Lamed, Hey, adds up to 515. Moshe Rabbeinu prayed 515 separate prayers to be able to annul the decree against him to enter the land, and HaShem said, enough, no more. Because if he prayed one more prayer, he would have gotten in. But HaShem had his decree in place, and even Moshe Rabbeinu could not annul that decree. But what does Rashi say? A very interesting thing. Rashi starts off, tzaddikim, righteous people, even if they have loads and loads of good deeds on their record, they still only ask. VaEschanan is a loshon (language) chanun - grace. I'm praying for a favor, I'm not asking it for any reward. I'm praying to find favor in Your eyes, HaShem, so that You grant me this wish. The Midrash tells that when Moshe Rabbeinu went up to heaven, HaShem was showing him around the treasuries. This is the reward for those who keep Shabbos. This is the reward for those who wear tefillin and tzitzis. This treasury is for the reward for those who give charity to the poor. And then Moshe Rabbeinu noticed there was a very tremendous room/treasury,
