hi everyone welcome to another edition of the Swarm chatter podcast on this episode of the podcast I'm going to be joined by Professor Daniel J Lasker who is a retired professor of Jewish thought at benguan University of the ne and we'll be discussing his newest book brand new book called kism an introduction to the oldest surviving alternative Judaism and is published by Litman the Litman library of J Jewish civilization thank you so thank you Professor Lasker for joining me well thank you n for having me my pleasure so let's start off tell the listeners a let's start off tell the listeners a little bit about yourself and your background well I did all my degrees at Brand I University um majoring undergraduate in philosophy and near Eastern judaic studies and then Masters in PhD in near e judaic studies and edges in which I studied medieval Jewish philosophy mainly uh when I finished even before I finished my doctorate I started teaching in colleges the UN in America I was teaching teaching for five years in America and moved to Israel in America and moved to Israel in 1978 went straight to benorian University of the netive and I've been here since the last 44 years okay so when when and how did your interest in uh in in kism start well when I was studying at brandise my doctoral advisor and even before he was my advisor was Professor Alexander Altman who was one of the major Scholars of the 20th century in Jewish studies in general but mostly medieval Jewish
