[Music] with Hashem's loving grace. Tonight we are learning the tyrant king. And there was once a king who decreed religious persecution on his subjects and by means of exile. Anyone remaining in the country would have to give up their country would have to give up their religion otherwise they would be forced to leave the land. Forced exile. Sounds very similar to the Spanish Inquisition. Well, some people gave up all their property and their wealth and they departed in poverty with nothing so they could remain true to their faith and continue to live as Jews and to observe Torah. They gave up everything and left everything behind. Others, however, were concerned with their belongings and wealth. They were attached to their physical side of their lives and they remained and the mass majority of them remained and the mass majority of them converted like the the authorities like the kingdom wanted them to. But many kept their Judaism secretly. They're called the Anosim and those underground. They they practice Judaism and uh publicly they were not able to. So the king that made this decree, he soon died and his son became king. Now the new king began to rule the kingdom in a very high-handed manner. He was very authoritative and a lot of people didn't authoritative and a lot of people didn't like him. He conquered many nations and he was very successful and he was cunning and but uh he held his ministers under a firm hand, a strong hand. There was no nonsense and so when there's no nonsense that uh it created opposition for him. So supplement ministers they decided that uh they would take the king's life get him out of the way and get somebody more comfortable. But uh one of the royal ministers was a forced convert. He was a former ostentious Jew.
