Shalom and welcome. We continue our study of the wisdom of King Solomon in the book of Proverbs. In the verse before us, King Solomon teaches us about a challenge that exists in every person's life. Every human being reaches moments where he is tested. Moments in which he becomes in a sense a judge. He may not be a judge in a courtroom, but he is sitting in the position of a judge. A husband judges his wife's actions. A wife judges her husband. actions. A wife judges her husband. Parents judge their children. Neighbors judge each other. Employees judge their employer. And the reverse as well. That inner attitude, that silent evaluation, the way we react to others, in our feelings, in our speech, and in our actions places us in the role of a judge. And like any judge, a person can become biased. Just as a judge who receives an envelope of money under the table sees things differently. When a judge is things differently. When a judge is bribed and rules in favor of the one who paid him, it's not that he says to himself, "Yes, this man is a crook, but I'll rule in his favor anyway." No. Once he accepts the bribe, his entire perception changes. He truly believes that this dishonest man is a righteous person. He convinces himself that he is right.
