Praise the Name. The Torah portion we will read this coming Sabbath, Parshat Vayera, begins with the holy Torah: " And the Lord appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the tent door in the heat of the day." We all know it was the third day of Abraham our father's circumcision, as he was commanded to circumcise himself at the age of 99, and he lifted his eyes and saw, and behold, three men were standing over him. The Holy One, blessed be He, brought the sun out of its sheath, and Abraham our father, longing to host guests, goes outside. The Gemara in Tractate Bava Metzia says : He sent Eliezer to bring him guests; Eliezer returned red all over, sweating completely, saying: Look, there is no one, no one is walking in the streets. No one. The streets are empty. Everyone is in the air conditioning. Then Abraham our father takes his chair, drags it to the tent door, because he wants to look for guests regardless. And he sees three men standing over him , and he runs to them from the tent door and bows to the ground. He says to them, pleading with them, "Come in, stay, wash your feet.""Let a little water be brought, wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.""Come in for one moment, I will take a piece of bread, sustain your hearts, and then you will pass on." The holy Torah says: They enter inside into the tent of Abraham our father, and Abraham hurried
