A very, very fundamental principle for this whole matter. We learn that the Holy One, blessed be He, judges a person specifically by their will, not by their deeds. What does that mean? It means that, as we spoke about earlier, everything Hashem leads us through, all our actions, are actually all from Him, blessed be He. Everything—we have no control over things not in our hands, for we are not the ones who perform the actions. As we said, He has done, is doing, and will do all of the deeds. As we said, will is the only thing that is truly in our hands. We can change our will at any given moment. Therefore, the main demand from a person is essentially: why didn't you want to? That, a person can do. Who stopped the person from wanting? Therefore, the main judgment in Heaven will be regarding the will. Meaning, why didn't you want? And of course, we will explain in the coming chapters exactly what is meant by "will." It is not just a nice concept. I wanted it and I will stick with it. It goes much deeper, as we will explain. But we will bring some proofs for this, with the help of Hashem, and establish this firmly so we can proceed to practical application,
