So, let's begin today with the parsha. The parsha this week is Pinchas. Pinchas begins um in a continuation of story that we had at the end of the day at the end of last week where um there was um the Moabite and Midianites were afraid of Israel and they decided they came up with a scheme to try to get Hashem angry at them by having Moabite and Midianite women attempt to seduce um the Israelite men and um get them to worship idols. And that led to an outbreak of a plague And that led to an outbreak of a plague and then a Jewish leader um from the tribe of Shimon by the name of Zimri came before Moses together with a Midianite princess and challenged Moses if it is permitted to um be with this woman and um then went ahead and publicly um cohabited with her. And at that moment Pinchas, who was Aaron's grandson, um took a spear and killed them both in public. And um at that moment um the the plague subsided and the parsha opens the plague subsided and the parsha opens with Hashem telling Moshe that Pinchas has calmed Hashem's anger so to speak against the children of Israel with his zealous act and therefore Hashem is giving his everlasting covenant of peace. And will give him will make him a cohen although Pinchas was a grandson of Aaron since he was born prior to the Exodus only future grandchildren of Aaron became cohanim but those born prior to Exodus of which we only know of Pinchas were not included as
