okay we started off looking at the at the ten commandments we we briefly touched on the first commandment which is not really again that the word 406. the word commandment is not really a very good description they're really the ten statements um and we might mention yesterday that all the commandments could went their way back they can trace their roots back into one of them uh but it says like this that's what we spoke about yesterday that god is is revealing his identity to the jewish people as the god that took him out of egypt we spoke about the idea of why that seems to be a little bit restrictive you know god is after all all-encompassing almighty all everything it seems a little bit uh you know a little bit small to say that i'm the god that took you out of egypt and yet we decided that the answer is that uh that um god in order in order to be able to worship god we have to build up a relationship with god we've got to have some kind of an individual connection to god and to be able to do that so god is describing himself in smaller terms to us so that we should be able to build that relationship up and then on page 480 it says like this you shouldn't have any other gods in my presence right no we're talking about no idol worship what is not in the presence there is no place there's no there's no presence of god i think what he's saying is i have the embassies like this i don't know why they i really don't know why the uh rabbi hold on saying i know why rabbi scroll use the word my presence to be honest um because alpine means in front of me which is everywhere
