This is a sh on book 25 second. So we are going to be talking about the portion of Noah the flood of and the begins with a apparent contradiction. The contradiction is that it says about the first 40 days of the flood. There's two contradictory verses seemingly. One says verses seemingly. One says that the rain was on the land for 40 days and 40 nights. But after that it says that the flood was for 40 days on the earth. Now the difference between a gish and a is very significant. We use the word today in Hebrew mabul to mean a major downpour. Gishm is rain. Mabul though in the biblical sense is not just a major downpour. Mabul is a a a a a major downpour. Mabul is a a a a deluge, something that wipes everything away. Gishm is rain that makes things grow. So those first 40 days, was it rain or was it a flood? So our sages explain and Rashi brings this that when Hashem brought the waters down on earth first he brought them down in a merciful way so that if they would repent if they would come back to Hashem as the rains are falling. You see Noah as the rains are falling. You see Noah for 120 years it said guys you better be prepared because Hashem is going to bring a flood you guys are sitting. And they were laughing they didn't believe it and then they wanted to kill the messenger. They figure if they kill Noah, nothing will happen.
