It's hard to do justice to either in an hour. To try to do justice and learn both is an insurmountable task, but we'll do our best nonetheless to try to glean some parsha perspectives for today, try to extract some lessons, some messages, and things that ideas that we can take from the parsha to inspire us now. Page 636 in the Artscroll Stone Chumash, Vayikra 16:1, Moshe, Hashem speaks to Moshe Acharei Mos, shnei bnei Aharon. This conversation takes place after the untimely, abrupt, tragic passing of Aaron's two sons, of Nadav and Avihu. The karvasam os na Hashem, vayamus when they drew close to Hashem and they died. Vayomer Hashem el Moshe, so Hashem tells Moshe, "Daber el Aharon achicha, speak to your brother, v'al yavo b'chol eis el hakodesh mibeis laparoaches el pnei hakapores asher al ha'aron v'lo yamus, ki b'anan era'eh al hakapores." Aaron cannot enter whenever he wants. He can't simply come unannounced, uninvited. But rather, Kadosh Baruchu says that when I appear, when I appear, ki b'anan era'eh, in a cloud I will appear over the kapores, that's the indication, that's the sign, that's the sharvit hazahav, so to say, the golden scepter that is inviting Aaron to enter. He can't just come in whenever he wants. It has to be by invitation. We've spoken in the past, we won't get into it now.
