We are celebrating not only a new month but a new year. Today Rosh Chodesh Nisan, the first day of the month of Nisan is Rosh Hashanah. How can How can it be Rosh Hashanah? Everybody's familiar with Rosh Hashanah in the autumn. Uh on the first day of the month of Tishrei. That's Rosh Hashanah. So first of all, you should know that there are many Rosh Hashanahs. There's a tractate in the Talmud called uh tractate Rosh Hashanah. And the first Mishnah of that tractate says that there are many things, many dates that are called Rosh Hashanah depending on what you're talking about. It's all context. Um if you're talking about the Rosh Hashanah where it becomes a new year, like when it became Tav Shin Pei, when it became the year 5780, so that was the first day of Tishrei that uh is in the the autumn, usually falls in uh late September, early October. But there's another Rosh Hashanah. There are many other Rosh Hashanahs, but the a very important Rosh Hashanah is the first day of Nisan. And there it say it states very, very clearly, explicitly in Torah, that that is the Rosh Hashanah because um it's actually the very first mitzvah. The very first mitzvah. Before the Jewish people even left Egypt, Hashem told Moshe Rabbeinu, our teacher Moses, "Today, the first day of Nisan, first [snorts] day of this month shall be to you the beginning of all months, the beginning of all months of the year." And that statement which is in Parshas Boi [snorts] is the foundation of the basis for the biblical mitzvah to establish the Jewish calendar.
