Why should I become a member of a synagogue? I believe the answer is found in this week's Torah portion. We begin with Abraham. The Torah tells us Abraham built three. He built three altars. The Torah tells us in chapter number 12 verse number seven, Abraham built an altar. In verse eight, it goes on to say again, Abraham built an altar. And then finally we find a third time in verse number 18, >> chapter number 13. Abraham built an altar for almighty God. The med tells us that the three altars that Abraham built represented three different reasons. The first reason was the bura to the good news that God told Abraham, I'm going to give you the land of Israel to you and your children for all generations. So for this to for this generations. So for this to for this good news, Abraham built the first altar. Then he came to I and he built the second altar. Why? What happened at I in the future generations when Joshua would enter into the land of Israel? There'll be a famous war >> and conquest of the city of Jericho. And the Torah tells us explicitly in the book of Joshua that God tells Joshua for book of Joshua that God tells Joshua for seven days you shall surround the walls of Jericho. Each day you go around the wall once with the kohanim, with the holy ark and you blow the chauffeur. You do this for six days. On the seventh day you will go around seven times. And then you will blow the chauffeur together with the ark. And then all the soldiers will scream out together in a loud cry and the walls will fall down. And that's what happened.
