Good evening. This week's parsha is parshas acharei mos and kedoshim, a double parsha once again. The opening pasuk many meforshim they're very curious why the first pasuk of this seder which most of the seder talks about the avodah of the kohen gadol on Yom Kippur. Kippur. And is indeed the first morning, the morning of Yom Kippur, this is the keriah. But the opening pasuk talks about the fact that Aaron's two sons, Nadav and Avihu, were niftar. Why in introducing this seder that has so many aspects about Yom Kippur has so many aspects about Yom Kippur would it throw in at the very beginning the first pasuk? Vayedaber Hashem el Moshe acharei mos u'vnei Aharon hakorvam lifnei Hashem vayamusu. Why is that pasuk right there? So, some chazal say that it is because Yom Kippur is a beautiful day of kaparah beautiful day of kaparah selichah, mechilah, kaparah it wipes the slate clean. But what happens if klal Yisrael does not do teshuvah properly? So then there is another way to wipe the slate clean and that is misas tzaddikim. And that is the reason that it's mentioned at the very beginning because mentioned at the very beginning because if we're ushering in a se- seder to tell you every aspect of that which is included the embodiment of Yom Kippur which is a free gift given on a silver platter that we can achieve that like it never happened the the all the negativity and the aveiros it's wiped clean. it's wiped clean. The chazal show them it's not wiped clean then the misas tzaddikim wipe it clean. And that's why there are so many stories replete with the fact that tzaddikim saw an impending disaster for klal Yisrael and le ma'aseh it didn't end up happening but there were two big tzaddikim who were niftar.
