Chamisha d'varim eru l'avoseinu b'Shiva Assar b'Tammuz v'Chamisha b'Tishrei. Five tragedies happened on the 17th of Tammuz, five happened on Tishrei. What happened on Shiva Assar b'Tammuz? Shiva Assar b'Tammuz nishtabru haluchos. The luchos were broken. U'vutel ha'tamid. The korban tamid was nullified. V'hufka ha'ir. The city was breached. V'saraph Apostomus es ha'Torah. Apostomus burnt the Torah. V'he'emid selem b'heichal. And he erected a idol in the heichal. Okay. So we read these words, I'm sure we've seen it dozens of times. We don't really think about it too much. Let's think for a moment when exactly did these tragedies happen? So number one, nishtabru haluchos. We know the luchos were broken. The chet ha'egel took place on Yiz Assar b'Tammuz. When did the chet ha'egel take place? In the midbar, right? As soon as Klal Yisrael came out of Mitzrayim. Butel ha'tamid. When was the tamid stopped? When did that happen? Did that happen in the midbar? No. When did it happen? There are actually four opinions when it happened. There are four opinions. There are two opinions in the Yerushalmi. Reb Shimon in the Yerushalmi says the Greeks stopped the tamid in Bayis Sheini. Reb Levi holds in the Yerushalmi the Romans stopped the korban tamid in Bayis Sheini. The Rambam in Tannis says that the Babylonians stopped the Talmud in Rishon. And Rashi in Daniel says it was just a random one-time Gazera. Therefore, we don't even know when it happened. First base of according to most it happened during Shani. According to some Rishon. Who's Apostomus? Who is he? You ever hear of him? You know who he is? Apostomus was a Greek general. So, when did he When did he burn the Torah? Toward the beginning of by Shani when the Greeks occupied Israel. The Greek occupation was not by the by Shani. It was way before.
