0:00 We see from here that when you want the candle — the soul — to burn, it has to be lit from the root. When you light the soul, it must be lit only from the root.
0:27 If you light it from above, it doesn't take up the oil. These are the things a person tramples under his heels. All the things a person tramples under his heels — the oil — the fire always catches from below. The blessings over what we enjoy, said with intent, blessings, holiness while wearing tefillin, the small tzitzis garment, things a person tramples, makes light of.
0:53 Lashon hara, baseless hatred — things a person makes light of. Tell a person, 'Come, say the whole Tehillim' — he'll say the whole Tehillim. Tell him, 'Come, be careful not to say a forbidden word' — about that he isn't careful. Better not to say a forbidden word and not to say the whole Tehillim, than for a person to — Rabbi Pinchas of Koretz said: when a person wants to say some word, some lashon hara, and he doesn't say it, it is counted for him as if he fasted seven times from Shabbos to Shabbos.
1:20 Seven times, a fast from Shabbos to Shabbos. There is nothing greater than this: to do teshuvah and to pray before the Holy King. How did Shlomo put it? "It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting." When you come to the final place, to the end — when a person sees the true purpose: what is the purpose of all of life in this world? What is the purpose? We see this world, and it looks eternal to us.
1:46 That is the evil inclination — it shows it to us as eternal. As if it never ends. Eternal. It shows you this one, shows you that one, and then you look and say, 'Wow, what is this — this is this world, here it is.' It shows a person that, but we don't know that we are being kept here as a free gift. For the body is carried to the graves, and his soul mourns over him. What we engrave here in the world — if we don't leave mighty ones here in the world who will carry on and reveal G-dliness, it is worth nothing.
2:15 We have to make this world fit, to reveal G-dliness in it. To reveal the light of the Holy King, to crown the Holy One, blessed be He, as King. That is the goal. That is the true purpose in this world. All of life in this world is worth nothing if there is no revelation of G-dliness in it, if a person does not sanctify His blessed Name. To go walking around here — they don't lift their eyes to heaven even once in... Our heads are turned — but the neck, the Holy One, blessed be He, made it like this.

2:43 What is compared to the neck? The Beis HaMikdash, the Holy Temple. The Beis HaMikdash. What is said of the Beis HaMikdash? "And My eyes and My heart shall be there all the days." All the days. That is the Temple. "I will carry my knowledge from afar" — the Beis HaMikdash. The eyes — "I lift my eyes to the mountains" — the neck. The Holy One, blessed be He, made the head like this. An animal — its head is down. So a person should have been like that too. Why did the Holy One, blessed be He, make it so that the eyes would have the possibility — that the neck could look upward?
3:12 Where is the logic in that? Why? What — for some laborer, so that when someone throws a stone at him from a floor above, he can say, 'Why did you throw that at me?' The Holy One, blessed be He, made the body in such a way that the eyes can be upward and the head can look toward above. No — only man can do this. Only man, only man can lift his head in such a way. Why did the Holy One, blessed be He, do that? Why didn't He design it — the bone of the leg, which is straight, cannot make this movement. However you move your body, with the leg you can't — you are limited.
3:45 But picture it: the animal is like this, with its eyes downward, and man would have had to see the same way. You'd have no way to lift yourself upward — there is no need. Seemingly, by nature, the Holy One, blessed be He, created man in a way that, by nature, there is no logic to why the head should need to see with the eyes upward. What for? That is, He formed it — and this we know: the hands — mitzvos, Torah, bringing first fruits to the Beis HaMikdash, charity.
4:12 We understand — there are hands. Until the time of Noach, our hands were like flat palms. It was a flat palm. After that they were separated, later on. But what does it mean that they were separated? That you have the ability to use them — to play music, to eat, to use them, to work the land. You have the ability to do things. But the head and the neck — seemingly, what is the reason the Holy One, blessed be He, made it so? So that a person will lift his eyes to heaven.
4:37 There is nothing as great as a person looking at the heavens. You know, in the time of our holy Rebbe, Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, they tell of him that there was someone who wanted a blessing for wealth from him. He didn't want to bless him. Afterwards, when he insisted, he blessed him. A long time passed, a long time passed, and afterwards he came, and then he called him — one time he saw him from the window, walking, walking along like this, looking at his clothes, looking at the shops in the market, at the fair.
5:06 So he called him and said, 'Come in to me for a moment.' He came in. He said to him, 'Tell me, when did you last look at the sky?' 'When did you look at the sky?' When one just gazes at the heavens — what did Yeshayahu say? "Lift up your eyes on high" "and see Who created these." When you look at the heavens — Rabbi Aharon Roth writes: whoever has foreign thoughts, the moment he goes out under the sky, they stop at once.
5:32 When is a sukkah disqualified for being too high? Twenty-four. Because the eye does not take it in. So what does that give us? That the Holy One, blessed be He, wants our eyes to be always upward. On Sukkos the Shechinah is above the head. You have no need to lift your head upward, because the Shechinah rests above you. Above your head — it truly hovers over you. That is a revelation of G-dliness, truly a revelation of G-dliness. But see what closeness to the Holy One, blessed be He, is.
5:58 What does it mean to reveal G-dliness? To see Hashem all the time. We keep seeing other things here in the world. We see so many illusions and fantasies and buildings and people and all kinds of things going around here in the world, and we hear all kinds of voices, and they distract our minds. There is a very, very beautiful teaching that Rabbi Nachman writes, Part Two, in Torah 10: "That people are far from Hashem, blessed be He," "is because they have no settled mind."
6:27 And this is such a saying, such a tremendous insight, to explain to us why people are far from Hashem, blessed be He. Because they have no settled mind — to settle their minds on what the purpose is of everything they do here in the world. Everything must have a goal. We must engrave in this world a true and eternal goal. If we don't carry it out and don't engrave it, we lose.
6:54 It is possible — you know, the Maggid of Kozhnitz, when he was small — they tell that once he came to his father, Rabbi Shabsai — it is also told about the Maggid of Mezritch and Rabbi Avraham the Malach, and there are several versions, about several sages. So he said to him, 'Know, my son: it is possible to be with Hashem, and it is possible to be against Hashem, but it is impossible to be without Hashem.'
7:26 You can be with Hashem, like King Shlomo, like King David, who was with Hashem. You can be against Hashem, like Titus, Pharaoh, Sancheriv, Nevuchadnetzar. But you cannot be without Hashem. There is no such reality. Either you are against Hashem or you are with Hashem. And we must always be with Hashem. Always to bring the Holy One, blessed be He, satisfaction, to reveal G-dliness, to engrave G-dliness here in this world, to crown the Holy King.
7:54 I have come to ask of you, my father, my teacher, forgiveness, pardon, atonement — that the Holy One, blessed be He, redeem us, that we merit to be redeemed with an upraised hand. - Amen. Amen. - Thank you so much for everything. Thank you for everything you gave me. For everything, for everything, for everything. I thank you. Here — my writings. Here. Did something come of it?
8:20 Did Torah come out? From your pain, with the suffering? From all the troubles, from all the ordeals, from all the bitterness, from all the poverty. The greatest wealth came out for you. Here — Torah. A revelation of G-dliness, and the Jewish people say: "Give thanks to Hashem, for He is good, for His kindness is forever."
8:49 May Hashem give your heart — a true heart, a [unclear] heart, full of compassion. Forgiveness, pardon, Everyone is asking for mercy for the Rav.
9:31 Yes, [unclear]. [unclear] the Rav — all the salvations, all the good things. May Hashem, blessed be He, redeem us. May the Holy One, blessed be He, have satisfaction, [unclear] the Shechinah — may there be a Tikkun of Binah, a Tikkun of the Shechinah. So many years, I haven't said 'Father.' Strange — I haven't said 'Father.' Because to the Holy One, blessed be He — I don't address Him, I don't say 'Father.' It's hard for me, I somehow don't...
9:57 He is the King, He is the King. He is our Father, our King — I always address Him with honor, as the King of kings of kings. I haven't merited to say the word 'Father' for so many years. It is very hard. "As a father has compassion on his children." That is a father — he always cares for you, he always watches over you. The Holy One, blessed be He — He is my Father now.
10:26 How does the Ibn Ezra put it in Parashas Re'eh? [unclear] grieve. The Holy One, blessed be He — after the Holy One, blessed be He, took the father, who has become your Father? Hashem, blessed be He. I have merited — I have a greater Father. What is that? Yes, yes — "you shall not gash yourselves" — that is what is needed: to be strong.
10:54 To crown our Father, our King, the holy King of kings of kings. May the King of kings of kings redeem us — Hashem, blessed be He. Redeemer of Israel, King, Helper, Savior and Shield, Master of wonders, Mightiest of the mighty, strong and powerful, supreme King, great, praised, the Maker, Who makes and will make all that is made — all creatures, all will declare, all will declare as one: Hashem is One and His Name is One.
11:20 Years of exile, years of Crusades, Inquisition, Holocaust, blood, bloodshed, terror attacks, disasters. The Jewish people, like this — [unclear], worn thin in exile, so much, so much in sorrow, weeping, bereaved families, disasters, troubles, ordeals. Waiting for the Master — everyone is waiting for the Holy King, for this King to appear over us suddenly.
11:48 For this King to be revealed in all His splendor to the whole entire world — all will know Who created the world. He asks [unclear], he says, 'Where are they?' Doesn't it interest you, make you curious, to see Who created you? Doesn't it interest you, make you curious, to know Who formed and made everything you see? Lift your eyes to heaven: "Lift up your eyes on high and see Who created these." Look to the Holy King. Have pity on your purpose, the true and eternal purpose.
12:16 Return to Hashem — each one knows his own afflictions, his transgressions, his sins. Leave the idols of silver and gold. Leave all the filth, all the sins, all the impurities, all the filth. Return to the Holy King and have pity on the true and eternal purpose. Everything passes in this world. We don't truly settle our minds here in the world. To be upright, proper, holy, faithful.
12:43 There is nothing more important than faithfulness. Nothing. It is the most important thing. The most important thing in this world is faithfulness. Whoever wants to pass through this world and leave it in peace, and be assured of a good life in this world and in the World to Come — it is only faithfulness. Nothing. If a person has lost his faithfulness, he has nothing more to lose. Nothing.
13:09 Nothing more to lose. He has lost everything. May we merit this all the days of our lives: to be faithful to Hashem, blessed be He, to be faithful, each man to his fellow, between a man and his wife, all the friends, to all the Jewish people, to this holy path. We will need to bring Hashem, blessed be He, satisfaction. Fortunate are you, for all that you cling to this faith, to the path of the holy Torah.
13:34 Everything we are trying to reveal in the world — fortunate are you — for the revelation of the kingship of the Holy King in all the worlds. We must go and act, do good, make the Torah of Hashem, blessed be He, shine. Be an advocate for us in heaven. - Amen. - And may we have good kindnesses and mercy. - Amen. - And to hold ourselves strong in this world, - Amen. - And not to break, and not to fear anything in the world. - Amen.
14:02 - Hashem, blessed be He, is with us, and our King is at our head. - Amen. Amen and amen. Be strong, be strong, be strong. Amen. - What, are the Kohanim standing over there? - Yes, yes, but behind the fence. - May Hashem watch over you, holy Kohanim.
14:28 - They are hearing the Rav on the phone. - Blessed are You, Hashem our G-d, King of the universe, [unclear]. Blessed are You, Hashem, our G-d, King of the universe, [unclear]. - Amen. - Blessed are You, Hashem our G-d, King of the universe, Who creates [unclear] of fragrance. - Amen. - [unclear] I'll tell you a story about Avraham [unclear].
14:57 He is someone who wanted to come to me and didn't manage to come — he didn't find the way, didn't manage to get there, and so on — and he went here, to my father's grave. He prayed, prayed, prayed, prayed. At that time he received some salvation, something, and he said, 'Listen, I don't need to come to him. I went here — it seems good to me here.' Fine. Afterwards he wanted again, and went to pray here. It happened to him — at the very hour he was praying, his daughter — something fell from above; his daughter was below; it fell right beside her and touched nothing.
15:26 Oy, [unclear]. And he kept coming here; he would come here, and he even encouraged me to come more. He told me, 'Come — I go.' He would say Tehillim here, he put sunshades here and prayed; they were taken from him; he came back. Seven years ago, eight years, he would sit here — five years. No one can take it. No one can take it. Rabbi Chananya ben Akashya says: The Holy One, blessed be He, wished to give Israel merit; therefore He gave them Torah and mitzvos in abundance, as it says: "Hashem desired, for the sake of His righteousness," "to make the Torah great and glorious."
15:52 May His great Name be magnified and sanctified. - Amen. Amen. Amen. - In the world He created according to His will, may He establish His kingship, make His redemption sprout, and bring His Mashiach near. - Amen. - In your lifetimes and in your days, and in the lifetime of all the House of Israel, swiftly and soon — and say: Amen. - Amen. Amen. - ...the Name of the Holy One, blessed be He. - Amen. - Above all the blessings, songs, praises and consolations that are said in the world — and say: Amen.
16:22 Upon Israel, and upon the rabbis, and upon their students, and upon all the students of their students, who engage in the holy Torah, in this place and in every place: may there be for us, for them and for you grace, kindness and mercy from before the Master of heaven and earth — and say: Amen. May there be abundant peace from Heaven: life and plenty, salvation and consolation, deliverance, healing and redemption, forgiveness and atonement, relief and rescue, for us and for all His people Israel — and say: Amen. - Amen. - He Who makes peace in His heights, may He in His mercy make peace upon us and upon all His people Israel — and say: Amen. - Amen. - May everyone have salvations [unclear]. - Amen.
16:48 - And much success, for the geulah, with Hashem's help. - Amen. - May Hashem, blessed be He, have mercy on us and redeem us. "The children shall return to their border" — Master of the world. How many prayers — there are prayers here, he said. It came out from here, from this place.
17:13 There are prayers here, [unclear]. Think about it — I'm a simple Jew, in the end. See what a simple Jew is: wholehearted, simple, good-hearted — he suffered so much in his life. Suffered so much — but suffered so much. In the end, so many prayers and Torah came out like this. Truly, it is simply a strengthening thing — to see someone who suffered so much, and in the end the oil came out — oil came out of this olive that was [unclear]; oil came out — that is these prayers, these holy writings, the turning to heaven.
17:55 How much they lifted their eyes and said, 'Master of the world' — for years I have been writing prayers, years. How many these prayers are, how much self-sacrifice [unclear]. How much self-sacrifice. From the age of fifteen, when I began printing them, distributing them at the Sinai synagogue. From the age of fifteen the first prayer came out. They can be distributed. Exactly. Moving.
18:24 The first prayer — [unclear] agreed to put it in the bulletin. At first he thought it over, and so on, and said, 'For the bulletin' — He brought me in; he said, [unclear], [unclear] 'Wait a little more, wait a little more' — and suddenly one man said, 'Come, let's put it in.' I said to him, 'What do you say?' He told me, 'Yes' — and then he put it in the bulletin. Yes, yes. Yes, yes. Thank you very much, my teacher. A prayer.
18:54 A prayer. Really? You want my handwriting? No less, no less, no less.
