you go to shul, you're looking for a minyan or for a uh you know, for a zimmun of Elokeinu, whatever it may be, a sheva brachas, you need 10 people. Kol davar shebikedushah, you need 10 people. Where does it come from? Says the Gemara in Megillah, in ayin u'mifnei ha'teiva, this is the Mishnah there in Megillah, which means you don't have to do chazarat ha'shatz, say birkat ha'mazon kapei'im, you can't duchan, bench koren ba'Torah, and other examples of things you need a minyan for. How do you know that you can't do it pachot me'asarah? Says the Gemara, "Minayin mili?" So Amar Reish Lakish b'Amar Rebbi Yochanan d'Amar Krov, because the pasuk says, "V'nikdashti b'soch Bnei Yisrael." Kol davar shebikedushah lo yehei pachot me'asarah. Every matter of kedushah needs a minyan, needs 10 people. Mai mashma? Where where do you see 10 from "V'nikdashti b'soch Bnei Yisrael"? So the Gemara says as follows. The Tanna Rebbi Chiya asks you "Teich teich." There's a gezeirah shavah. K'siv hacha "V'nikdashti b'soch Bnei Yisrael" u'ksiv hasam, it says in this week's sedra in parashah's Korach, "Hibadlu mitoch ha'eidah." Separate yourselves from this congregation. But ask you "Eidah eidah." There is a second gezeirah shavah. There's a third gezeirah shavah. "Eidah eidah" d'ksiv hasam, "Az mosai lo eidah ha'ra'ah ha'zot." Which is in last week's sedra parashah's Shlach L'cha, referring to 10 of the 12 spies, not Yehoshua and Calev, but 10 of them are referred to as "Eidah ha'ra'ah ha'zot." Malon there are 10 of them. Uh "Asarah af ki asarah." So to have an "Eidah bad u'metuch eidah." Eidah means 10. And therefore, "V'nikdashti b'soch Bnei Yisrael" tells me that just like it says, "Hibadlu mitoch ha'eidah" and eidah is 10, so therefore, "V'nikdashti b'soch I need 10 people for a minute.
